N B 3 / Who was Owain Glyndŵr?
- Look at images of Glyndŵr (NB 2) – an opportunity to discuss and express an opinion e.g why are there different images of him?
- Look at Glyndŵr’s timeline (NB 3) – a starting point to further work by preparing a presentation about Glyndŵr’s life – booklet, PowerPoint or Photo Story presentation.
- Sycharth – search for information about Sycharth – what kind of building, life in Sycharth (the family, workers).
- Choose some important events in Glyndŵr’s life e.g. Battle of Bryn Glas, the Pennal Letter, Establishing a Parliament in Machynlleth.
- The Big Question – what happened to Owain Glyndŵr after 1412 – an opportunity to express an opinion / create an interpretation.
- Plenty of opportunities to practice written language skills – factual reports, diary, letter and monologue.
- INTERPRETATIONS OF HISTORY – differentiating between ‘fact’ and ‘opinion’, giving some reasons for this based on evidence/information.

Glyndŵr’s timeline up to today.
N B 1 / An opportunity to place Owain Glyndwr in historical order, to gather information and briefly discuss each event. All the events in NB1 refer to events after 1404:-
- 1404 – Establishing a Parliament at Machynlleth.
- 1588 –Translating the Bible into Welsh. History of Bishop William Morgan
- 1631 – Building the Taj Mahal in Agra.
- 1865 – The Mimosa sails for Patagonia.
- 1918 – The end of the First World War.
- 1945 – The end of the Second World War.
- 1969 – Man walks on the moon.
- 1982 – S4C Television Channel established.
- 1999 – The National Assembly for Wales officially opened.
The Taj Mahal
N B 12 / N B 12 provides a number of images of the TAJ MAHAL. This is an opportunity for the children to see and discuss the characterisitics of the building, stimulating them to do futher work researching and presenting information about this remarkable structure.
Questions for discussion:
- Who were Shan Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal?
- Why build such a building?
- How long did it take to build the Taj Mahal?
- What kind of materials were used to build it?
(An opportunity also for art work – looking at the patterns on the sculpture work surrounding the building. )
Additional / Some suggestions for additional tasks to extend the theme or extended tasks for more able pupils-:
- Gather information about the history of INDIA – how old is the country?
- Great events in India’s history – India’s historical time-line.
- Prepare a time-line showing historical events in WALES.
- Compare the history of INDIA and WALES - similarities / differences.
