PUGET SOUND MODEL BOAT CLUB
NOVEMBER 2003
IT’S TURKEY SHOOT TIME
Our club’s annual Turkey Shoot Regatta will be Sunday, the 16th at Lake Waughop.
Classes being offered are: Open Novice, A Stock Tunnel, B Stock Tunnel, A Open, B Open, Sport 40, and Open Gas. It takes three boats to make a class. Cost per class is $5.00. We’ll begin setting up at 7:30 a.m. and commence Open Water once we have the equipment in place.
Pre-registration would be appreciated. This can be done by e-mailing Gene Gager at – - registration will be taken the morning to the race. NAMBA membership is required. One-day memberships available only to those who have not previously used a one-day membership.
Awards will be gift certificates to Safeway to purchase a turkey or some other product available at a Safeway store. Former member and serious boat racer, Frank Crockett liked winning a gift certificate last year. He mentioned something about drinking his turkey. Vice Commodore Gene Gager also liked the gift certificate option. Since U.J. didn’t hear any complaints last year, it’ll be gift certificates again this year. That’s a whole lot easier than having Maren Dunlap haul 8 – 10 frozen turkeys down to Waughop!!
RACE RESULTS
The Fall Classic – Once again, the NW Outboard Championship and Ron Erickson Sport 40 Memorial Race were conducted at the Fall Classic hosted by NW Roostertails. Dave Solway won the A Stock Tunnel Class, Gene Gager topped the field in B Stock, and Kirk McKee captured Sport 40. Dave Solway commented that this marked the first time he had ever won A Stock at a NW Outboard Championships’ event.
Other class winners at the Fall Classic were: A Mono, Keith Johnson, Sport 20, Shawn Warren, A Open, Greg Roth, and B Open Ken Mallit.
The Pumpkin Scrambles – A terrific turnout and racing conditions prevailed at this event. Also of note was the appearance of a few model boaters who for various reasons have not be able to attend many events recently. Jere Heiser, Mark Knox, and Bob Welch showed they still had “the touch” by each winning an event. Jere won B Stock Tunnel, Mark was first in Sport 40, and Bob took top position in A Mod along with a second in A Stock. Dave Solway continued his winning ways in A Stock with three qualifying heat wins and a win in the final. A Stock was the largest class of the event with a dozen entries. Mike Hughes won A Mono and Greg Roth won another A Open event. Ken Mallit was the winner in B Open, Shawn Warren’s one heat win was sufficient to take Open Hydro, while Eric Bourlet’s gas mono bested the cats of Craig and Kyle Gensel. Geoff Bourlet was the only Open Novice to get a boat on the water.
CLUB STUFF
2004 Club Dues – Club dues for next year can be paid at the Turkey Shoot or sent to: Jerry Dunlap, 119 Crestwood Dr. S.W., City of Lakewood, WA 98498-3831. Make checks for $10.00 payable to PSMBC.
Frostbite Follies – This Fun Run will be December 7 at Lake Waughop. We’ll toss out some buoys and maybe organize a few Poker Rallies.
Club officers for 2004 – The three positions are: Commodore, Vice Commodore, and Sec./Treasurer. U.J. will accept the Sec./Treasurer position unless some else wants the job. Not sure about my fellow FROGS continuing to serve as Commodore and Vice Commodore, but they probably will. Any club member willing to serve as an officer should contact U.J. – sometime in February the “U.J.” title can be replaced with “GPJ” for Grandpa Jerry.
Club Award’s Meeting – This event will be held Saturday evening, January 10th at Sprinker Recreation center. Tentative plan is to serve a KFC dinner and request a donation from those attending to cover the cost of the dinner.
