ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED ON DAYS SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED

When the schools are closed due to weather, public calamity, etc. ALL student activities and meetings scheduled for that day or night SHALL BE CANCELLED. If schools are closed due to fog, and later the fog clears, some limited activities may be held at the discretion of the administration.

In the case of fog or inclement weather we may use a HOLD (or time delay) in starting school. The HOLD is one hour in duration and the time schedule is as follows:

FOG: 1st HOLD:

7:00

8:00

2nd HOLD:

8:00

9:00

If the condition has not improved by the end of the second HOLD it is very likely that school will not be in session that day. The final information on closing of school will be given in the manner and through the same news media as stated above.

BUILDING POLICIES

Student Liability

Each student is responsible for damages to school property during school time, or school sponsored activities. Student and/or parents will be held financially responsible for any and all damages.

Transportation to School

All residents of the school district are provided school bus transportation to and from school. All grade levels of students will be loaded and discharged at the north entrance to the elementary school. High school and junior high school students are to pass directly through the hallway into the appropriate buildings. Page 29 of this student handbook lists the bus rules.

Violation of these rules will result in disciplinary actions. Please refer to item I of the Student Conduct Code.

Permission to Drive to School

Any student who has a valid drivers license and is properly insured may drive a car (no mopeds or bikes) to and from school if necessary. The student shall have written permission, bearing the signatures of both the parent and driver, on file in the Building Principals office. Permission slips to be signed by the parent/guardian should be picked up in the high school office on the first day the student drives to school.

Students are to park their cars in the large parking lot at the northeast side of the building in the designated area. Students are not to be in their cars between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 3:08 p.m. unless an emergency exists or prior permission has been granted.

Students are to drive into and from the parking lot in a safe and responsible manner. Speeding and reckless operation will not be tolerated. All student traffic from the parking lot will be stopped as busses depart at approximately 3:15 p.m. Violation of these guidelines will result in disciplinary actions Reference item J of the Student Conduct Code.

HOUSE BILL 353

1. If under age 18, the juvenile cannot drive between midnight and 6 a.m. unless accompanied by parent or guardian.

2. Under age 17 cannot drive between midnight and 6:00 a.m. unless with parent/guardian.

3. If age 17 cannot drive between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless with parent/guardian

4. If under age 17, cannot drive a motor vehicle with more than one person who is not a family member unless with parent/guardian

Excuses to Leave the Building

Medical and Dental appointments are sometimes scheduled during school hours. Other situations may require a student to leave the building during hours. The student should bring a note from home in advance and shall be signed out in the Principals office. If the student returns to school during the same school day he shall report to the Principals office upon his return. Reference item W of the Student Conduct Code.

Daily Schedule

Each student is assigned a full day of classes or study halls. The student shall report to the respective class area and the staff member in charge. He is to report to each class with the necessary books, materials, etc. needed for the respective class work. If the student leaves the class area during that period, he is to do so only with the written permission of the teacher in charge.

School Events are not to be scheduled on Sunday, after 5:30 on Wednesdays and holidays.

Hall Passes

After a student has arrived at his assigned class area and reported to the teacher-in-charge he is to remain in that classroom until the end of the period. If he leaves the area with the teachers permission, he is to have in his possession a signed student agenda book identifying his destination, the time of departure and bearing the signature of the teacher granting permission.

Halls and Lockers

Students shall walk in the halls in an orderly manner when changing classes during the school day. Ample time is provided for movement from one class to another. Students are not permitted to be in the halls during class time without a pass signed by the teacher-in-charge of their assigned class or area.

Students in grades 7-12 are directed to pick up their books and materials necessary for morning classes prior to the tardy bell and follow the same procedure prior to afternoon classes.

Lockers are the property of the school district. District officials do have the legal authority to search all lockers. The maintenance and care of the locker is the student’s responsibility. Markings inside the locker and outside the locker are prohibited and students must clean markings from their lockers. To not do so is in violation of item H. of the Student Code of Conduct.

Cafeteria

In compliance with the School Lunch Program, lunches are served in the Lincolnview K-12 cafeteria during the scheduled lunch periods. A student must buy a complete lunch rather than purchase certain specific items (a la carte). Students are encouraged to pay money ahead of time and use their student I.D. number to purchase lunch. This will help the lunch line move quickly if students do not use cash when going through the lunch line. Checks over amount due will be added on to your account.

Students are to form an orderly, single-file line to enter the serving line. Students will remain in the lunch room area or report directly to the gymnasium during their respective lunch period or outside weather permitting.

Lincolnview 7-12 Library/Media Center

The 7-12 Library/Media Center is a multi-group, multi-use environment. It is stocked with reference materials, books, encyclopedias, current magazines and newspapers, for either class reference or recreational reading. The main purpose of the media center is to support and supplement the curriculum; therefore, all students in grades 7-12 are expected to respect the need for everyone to be able to work in a quiet space. No loud talking, visiting, or socializing will be permitted. No food, drinks, candy, or suckers are permitted in the library or the computer lab.

Use Policy

Admission to the Media Center is allowed during an assigned study hall. The student MUST sign out of study hall and into the library, specifying the reason for being in the library. The last student will bring a pass indicating the time they left the study hall and place it in a box in the library. When the last person signs the library list, the library aide will check attendance and then take the list to study hall. The library list will be checked against the list in study hall to make sure the students are signed in and accounted for. The students from study hall will remain in the media center the entire period.

For students who wish to come to the library only to read the newspaper or a magazine, check out or renew a book, take an AR quiz, etc. there is a to-minute pass available. These passes are on brightly colored paper and are only used by the library. The pass will show the ~ the student left the room and the teacher/monitor’s initials. The student will place these passes on the circulation counter as they enter the library. When it is time for them to return to SH or class, they will need to have the media specialist sign it and include the time. A teacher may send students to the library from their class to work on a specific research assignment with a signed agenda book. Anyone from a class without a pass will be sent back to class. The only accepted pass is their student agenda book. The library staff asks that teachers refrain from signing students out of study hall. Students with special scheduling needs may request lunchtime visits for before or after school visits. At least 24 hours notice to the media specialist is required for special scheduling.
