Purpose:
To promote excellence in the construction of public works projects by recognizing the alliance between the managing agency and the contractor who, working together, complete public works projects.
Eligibility:
Public works is defined as the physical structures and facilities that are developed, owned, and maintained by public agencies to house governmental functions and provide water, power, waste disposal, transportation, and similar public services in accordance with established public policy. The contractor nominated for this award must show the firm’s connection to public works projects.
Previous recipients of this award are not eligible for future consideration for three years after the receipt of the award. Note that this award category is a local award category and therefore will not be submitted to National APWA for consideration.

Please address each of the following areas in supporting documentation, adhering to the sequence below:
1.Construction Management: Use of good construction management techniques and completion of the project on schedule.
2. Safety: Safety performance and demonstrated awareness of the need for a good overall safety program during construction.
- Customer Service: Community relations as evidenced by efforts to minimize public inconvenience due to construction, safety precautions to protect public lives and property, provision of observation areas, guided tours, or other means of improving relations between the agency and the public.
4.Environmental Awareness: Demonstrated awareness for the need to protect the environment during the project. This includes any special considerations given to particular environmental concerns raised during the course of the project.
5.Accomplishments: Unusual accomplishments under adverse conditions including, but not limited to age or condition of the facility, adverse weather, soil or other site conditions over which there is no control.
- Additional Comments: Additional conditions deemed of importance to the public works agency such as exceptional efforts to maintain quality control and, if value engineering is used, construction innovations as evidenced by time and/or money-saving techniques developed and/or successfully utilized.
NOTE:Supporting documentation is limited to 20 pages, exclusive of photographs and nomination form. Nomination form and supporting documentation must be typed using 11-point font. Photographs will be used for promotional purposes by the Association. (Failure to provide photographs will not be counted against you.) Submittal should include the nomination form, supporting documentation, and two (2) photographs. No letters of recommendation, please. Simultaneous nomination in two categories is not permitted.One copy of the submittal is required.
