Article 1. Name
The name of the organization shall be “TheIowa State University International Business Club”.
Article 2. Purpose and Goals
The Iowa State University International Business Club shall exist to promote awareness of and participation in international business education activities that reinforce the importance of international business experience in the curriculum and careers of students.
The Iowa State University International Business Club goals shall be;
To obtain knowledge and information about international business,
To increase participation by business students in an international business
education activity (IBUS major, study abroad, study tour, or internship abroad),
To share the experience of international students and domestic students who have
studied abroad,
To provide a social atmosphere that is supportive of the purpose and goals of the
club.
The Iowa State University International Business Club abides by and supports established IowaStateUniversity policies, State and Federal Laws.
Article 3. Membership
Membership shall be open to all registered students at IowaStateUniversity as Full Members, Staff, Faculty and non-registered students, as well as students from other colleges may be Associate Members of The Iowa State University International Business Club. Either membership requires the payment of dues provided in the Bylaws but not exceeding $25 per semester. The International Business Club is open to registered students at Iowa State and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, disability, or status as a U.S. Veteran.
As a member, one is required to attend organization meetings regularly, pay dues if required, and actively support organization projects. Membership will be revoked by ½ vote of officers plus ¾ vote from the general membership if actions are deemed inappropriate by the membership.
Article 4. Officers and Adviser
Section 1.
Officers’ positions must be limited to ISU students. In the case of an officer not filling his/her duties either by registration or impeachment by a fellow officer, acceptance must include a 2/3 majority vote by all members of the club present at the club meeting the situation is discussed at. This meeting will be held at the end of the Spring semester. Candidates will have no more than 5 minutes to address members before being excused to let the remaining member discuss the pros and cons of each candidate before taking a simple majority vote. Replacing vacant positions will occur through a self nomination process and backing of two other club members with confirmation by a club simple majority vote. The advisor will be elected by the executive committee and will hold the position for a minimum of one year.
The adviser will serve a term of one full year (from August to August). The adviser will be selected by the officers and then voted on by the general membership. A majority vote is needed for an adviser to be selected.
Section 2.
The officers for The Iowa State University International Business Club must meet the following requirements:
(a)Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) as stated below and meet that minimum GPA in the semester immediately prior to the election/appointment, the semester of election/appointment and semesters during the term of office. For undergraduate students, the minimum GPA is 2.00. In order for this provision to be met, at least six hours (half-time credits) must have been taken for the semester under consideration
(b)Be in good standing with the university and enrolled: at least half time (six or more credit hours), if an undergraduate student (unless fewer credits are required to graduate in the spring and fall semesters) during the term of office, and at least half time (four or more credits), if a graduate level student (unless fewer credits are required in the final stages of their degree as defined by the Continuous Registration Requirement) during their term of office.
(c)Be ineligible to hold an office should the student fail to maintain the requirements as prescribed in (a) and (b).
(d)Able to perform duties for full term, January to January. Elections take place at the end of the spring semester.
Section 3.
The following are expectations and requirements of elected officers and the adviser.
- President
- Preside over all meetings and be responsible for a written agenda
- Represent organization on campus
- Ensure that the organization is operating in conformity with the standards set forth by IowaStateUniversity and Student Activities center
- Maintain communication with organization adviser
- Vice-president
- Preside over meetings in the absence of the President
- Schedule meetings/events with appropriate University offices
- Coordinate organization promotion and publicity of events
- Reserve the rooms and meeting locations
- Oversee committees
- Secretary
- Maintain an accurate record of all organization meetings and post for members
- Maintain membership directory and e-mail list
- Correspond when necessary with University administration and other recognized organizations
- Treasurer
- Maintain accurate record of organization transactions
- Collect dues if required
- Develop organization budget and present to membership for ¾ vote
- Cosign organization checks along with the Adviser
- Arrange fundraising opportunities for the organization
- Solicits additional funding if needed from the Student Government Association in conjunction with the President
- Adviser
- Provide resources around campus and within the community.
- Attend at least 2 club meetings.
- Maintain communication and meet with officers regularly.
- Awareness and approval of financial expenditures along with the Treasurer.
- Ensure that the organization is operating in conformity with the standards set forth by Iowa State University and Student Activities Center.
Section 4.
Officers may be removed from office by ½ vote of the other officers and ¾ of the general membership if actions are deemed inappropriate by the membership. The officer is permitted to speak before the Executive Committee and the general membership about the charges made concerning his/her performance. The officer is not permitted to participate in the deliberation of the Executive Committee regarding the charges.
Article 5. Finances
Finances will be regulated according to the University and SAC policy. All monies belonging to this organization shall be deposited and disbursed through a bank account established for this organization at the Campus Organizations Accounting Office and/or approved institution/office (must receive authorization via Campus Organizations Accounting Office). All funds must be deposited within 24 hours after collection. The advisor to this organization must approve and sign all expenditures before payment. The treasurer, or any member appointed by the club officers may collect on the behalf of the club. Should this club terminate its functions, all funds shall be returned to the GSP finance director. All monies shall be held by the COAO (Campus Organizations Accounting Office) for a period of 6 months, if the club is reestablished during that time, the monies shall be returned to the club.
Article 6. Ratification & Amendments
Primary ratification of the IBUS club constitution shall be approved by the current club officers; a majority vote will ratify this constitution. Any member of this organization may propose an amendment to this constitution. Amendments shall be offered to club officers present and shall be discussed by the club before a vote may be called for. Amendments of the constitution may be ratified only by a two thirds vote of the members present.
