We can only do 3 days! (or 4)Can we still use Mission Rescue?
For a whole variety of reasons, somegroups can’t manage five days and two Sundays, but they can still use Mission Rescue materials.
If you don’t have the number of days allocated in Mission Rescue you will have to miss out some parts, but you need to make the overall story fit together and flow, without huge gaps.Westronglysuggest you read all the stories so that you get the full story, before thinking about how you make it fit.
Here are our suggestions for running a shorter version:
Four day holiday club
Day 1 – Undercover
Exodus 2:1–10. This starts the story of Moses so is a good place for us to start. You will need to include some material from the Sunday to explain why God’s people need rescuing.
Day 2: Your mission, should you choose to accept it
Exodus 3:1-15.God spoke to Moses and gave him the mission to bring his people out of Eqypt.God gave Moses everything he needed.
Day 3: Mission accomplished
Exodus 7–10 retold, Exodus 11; 12:29–32, 33–42. Pharaoh refuses to let the people go, the plagues take place(briefly told)including the awful final one when God forces Pharoah to let the people go.God’s people are saved by sacrificing a lamb and spreading its blood on their doorposts. They share the first Passover feast together to celebrate God’s rescue.
Day 4: Escape
Exodus 14:1–29.God rescues the Israelites from the chasing Egyptians by miraculously parting the Red Sea. When the Israelites could see no way out, God provided one. He used Moses as the instrument for this final rescue of the story. God’s people are free!
Three day holiday club
Day 1: Your mission, should you choose to accept it
Exodus2: 1–10 and 3:1–15.Many children know the story of baby Moses in the river, but it will be good to retell this briefly or show a video that covers it.God spoke to Moses and gave him the mission to bring his people out of Eqypt.God gave Moses everything he needed.
Day 2: Mission accomplished
Exodus 7–10 retold, Exodus 11; 12:29–32, 33–42.Pharaoh refuses to let the people go, the plagues take place (briefly told) including the awful final one when God forces Pharoah to let the people go. God’s people are saved by sacrificing a lamb and spreading its blood on their doorposts. They share the first Passover feast together to celebrate God’s rescue.
Day 3: Escape
Exodus 14:1–29.God rescues the Israelites from the chasing Egyptians by miraculously parting the Red Sea. When the Israelites could see no way out, God provided one. He used Moses as the instrument for this final rescue of the story. God’s people are free!
Of course if you have a Sunday service at the end of your shorter holiday club you can rearrange things so that you include one of the stories missed out above, or do a recap of the whole story, or use the Sunday service 2 programme.
