THE NORTHERN KY SPORTS HALL OF FAME WILL INDUCT NEW MEMBERS INTO ITS ORGANIZATION ON WEDNESDAY JANURARY 21, 2009 AT 1:00 P.M. THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO ATTEND THE CEREMONY THAT WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE VILLA HILLS CIVIC CLUB HALL, 729 ROGERS ROAD VILLA HILLS KENTUCKY.
JEFF KREMER – BURLINGTON, KY. GRADUATED FROM HIGHLANDSHIGH SCHOOL IN 1983. HE WAS A TWO TIME 1STTEAMALLSTATE DEFENSIVE BACK IN 81 & 82. HE CURRENTLY HOLD’S THE NORTHERN KY AREA RECORD FOR INTEREPTIONS IN A SEASON WITH 12 IN 1981. THAT RECORD TIES HIM FOR 4TH IN THE KY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION RECORD BOOKS. HIS CAREER INTERCEPTIONS WERE 21, TYING HIM FOR 6TH IN KENTUCKY HISTORY.HE ALSO WAS HONORABLE MENTION ALL STATEAS A QUARTERBACK DURING THE 1982 SEASON. IN BOTH THE 1981 & 1982 SEASONS, HIGHLANDS WON THE CLASAAASTATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
IN BASKETBALL HE WAS A 1ST TEAM ALL REGION, ALL CONFERENCE, AND ALL DISTRICT PERFORMER. HE AVERAGED 14 POINTS & 8 REBOUNDS HIS SENIOR YEAR TO HELP LED THE BLUEBIRD TEAM TO A 9TH REGION BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. HE ACCEPTED A FULL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP TO UNIV OF KENTUCKY TO PLAY FOOTBALL. DURING HIS CAREER FROM 1983-1987 HE ESTABLISHED MANY TACKLING RECORDS THAT ARE STILL STANDING TODAY. HE SIGNED AS AN NFL FREE AGENT WITH THE DALLAS COWBOYS IN 1988. HIS ATTEMPT TO PLAY PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL ENDED WHEN THE LEGENDARY TOM LANDRY CUT HIM PRIOR TO THE SEASON. .
HAROLD NEFF – LATONIA, KY. HE PLAYED SOFTBALL 22 YEARS FOR BOSSE’S CAFÉ, DIXIE NOVELTY & COVINGTON TURNERS WINNING NUMEROUS CHAMPIONSHIPS. IN 1983 HE WAS VOTED MOST VALUABLE PLAYER IN LOUISVILLE KY TOURNAMENT. HE PLAYED BASEBALL FOR ST JOHN ‘S CYO LEAGUE FOR 5 YEARS. HE PLAYED FOOTBALL IN THE FELDHAUS LEAGUE AND IN 1965 HIS COVINGTON HUSTLERS WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP. HIS GREATEST THRILL WAS BEATING THE CINCINNATI TEAM THAT WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP THE PREVIOUS 5 YEARS.
DONNA MURPHY – LEXINGTONKY. GRADUATED FROM NEWPORTHIGH SCHOOL IN 1976. SHE WAS A PIONEER IN THE GIRL’S GAME AND BECAME THE STATE’S FIRST MISS BASKETBALL IN 1976. SHE AVERAGED 35 POINTS AND 20 REBOUNDS PER GAME. SHE SET 17 NINTH REGIONS AND FOURSTATE RECORDS, INCLUDING A SINGLE-GAMESTATE SCORING RECORD OF 42 POINTS THAT EVENTUALLY FELL IN 1996. SHE WAS RECRUITED NATION-WIDE BUT SHE CHOSE TO ATTEND MOREHEADSTATEUNIVERSITY. DURING HER YEARS THERE SHE EARNED A NUMBER OF AWARDS. ONE OF THEM WAS THE WBL ALL AMERICAN SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR. UPON GRADUATION SHE WAS THE FIRST FORWARD TO BE DRAFTED IN THE WBL AND PLAYED PROFESSIONALLY FOR THE ST LOUIS STEAK. SHE HAS RECEIVED NUMEROUS AWARDS KENTUCKY HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME, DAWAHARES/KENTUCKY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME, MOREHEADSTATEUNIVERSITY ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME AND THE NORTHERN KENTUCKY ATHLETIC DIRECTORSHIGH SCHOOL FALL OF FAME.
DON SHIELDS – EDGEWOOD, KY. HE HAS BEEN VILLAMADONNAACADEMY GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH FOR THE PAST 19 YEARS. HIS OVERALL RECORD 286-225 NOT INCLUDING THIS BASKETBALL SEASON.
HE WAS NAMED DIVISION III COACH OF THE YEAR IN 2000-01, 2001-02,
2002-03. HE HAS BEEN ATHLETIC DIRECTORATVILLAMADONNAACADEMY SINC E 2001.HE WAS BOONECOUNTYHIGH SCHOOL HEAD BASEBALL COACH FROM 1966 UNTIL 1968. HE WON ONE DISTRICT TITLE AND ONE DISTRICT RUNNER UP. HIS OVERALL RECORD WAS 29-16. HE WAS IN THE NORTHERN KY BASKETBALL OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION AND OFFICIATED VARSITYHIGH SCHOOL GAMES FOR 17 YEARS.
HIS GREATEST THRILL WAS WINNING THE NKAC DIVISION III CONFERENCE TWICE. HE HAD FOUR TWENTY WIN SEASONS AND FINISHING WITH A RECORD OF 23-5 IN 2001-02.
