Spokes/AdultED Instructor
Title of Vacancy:S.P.O.K.E.S. TEACHER
Employment Term:Part-time/Temporary
Location:Monroe County, Pocahontas County, and Webster County
Job Goal: Provide substantive academic and job preparation skills to aid customers in obtaining unsubsidized employment or preparing for postsecondary training.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with teaching adult education, life skills,computer skills, Work Keys, work process skills and or job readiness curriculum – substitute teaching as necessary
- Administer/interpret appropriate assessment instruments when necessary.
- Assist students in developing realistic primary and secondary job and training goals
- Develop an employability plan for each individual participant
- Make students active partners in the occupational/training search process
- Maintain accurate records of participant progress and attendance in job search and training activities.
- Maintain the confidentiality of student/program information
- Prepare local, state and other agency reports as required by the SPOKES program.
- Work in a team effort with AdultED instructors, volunteer tutors, vocational teachers and staff, SESC AdultED Coordinator and the WVDOE SPOKES Coordinator.
- Coordinateprogramming with team members.
- Coordinate with team members in communicating with referring agencies.
- Develop and maintain contacts with individual adult technical education/college programs and Work4WV staff.
- Review and utilize labor market information; plan and implement an effective employer relations and public relations program to develop employment opportunities for participants
- Coordinate the movement of the participant into employment/training through effective job development practices
- Coordinate job coaching activities with appropriate job opportunities to ensure successful student transition to the job market
- Conduct placement follow up to determine participant progress/success and to promote retention
- Monitor and evaluate employer and participants to ensure compliance with program standards
- Perform other duties as relate to the AdultEd/SPOKES program.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
- Professional teaching certificate (preferred) or eligibility for an Adult License (four year college degree – minimum of 2.5 GPA in original course work; a minimum of 3.0 in course work used in maintenance of certificate or adult license).
- Ability to provide job readiness, life-coping skills and computer-aided instruction for adult learners required.
- Experience teaching adult education preferred
- Understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Experience working with adults, particularly at-risk populations and adults with special learning needs/disabilities
- Established industry contacts in the fields of hospitality, health, and retail (preferred)
- Established educational contacts with technical education and community college/college (preferred)
- Ability to motivate participants to set appropriate career goals and to move from entry level through occupational career pathways
- Expertise/practice of effective methods of job development/placement strategies
- Teamwork and strong interpersonal/human relationship skills
- Possess excellent organizational skills with the ability to work within established timelines
- Computer skills required.
- Effective oral/written communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with the local Department of Health and Human Resources; the local Work4WV Career Center; the local Unemployment Office; and other referral agencies.
- Prepared to attend a minimum of 12 hours of professional development annually.

REPORTS TO:SESC Executive Director or designee
CONTRACT/AGREEMENT:
This position is grant-funded based on availability of funding. SESC employment agreements are for one year or less. SESC does not issue continuing employment contracts. The execution of this employment agreement is contingent upon funding.
EVALUATION:
Performance of full time teaching positions will be evaluated in accordance with State Board Policy.
