Acclaimed by The New York Times as, “a force to be reckoned with…” Miclen LaiPangis one of the stars of his generation. Miclen started his first violin lesson at the age of three due to the influence of his brother, a violinist in the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. By the age of nine, he had won numerous competitions, including the grand-prize of the Merit Award Competition for the University of Redlands and the ASTA Competition. Since, Miclen has performed in 67 countries, and was a featured soloist at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, where he performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, while also performing with over 20 orchestras. He has debuted at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Royal Albert Hall, Salzburg Dom Cathedral, and many more. Miclen has appeared as a violin soloist on NBC (America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars), ABC (Good Morning America), and ESPN (NBA National Anthems). Miclen has also garnered top prizes from the Stradivarius International Violin Competition and the Hong Kong Schoenfeld International String Competition.
As an avid chamber musician, Miclen has participated in numerous chamber programs including the Colburn Chamber Music Institute, the Junior Chamber Music program in Los Angeles, Laura Bossert and Terry King’s LyricaFest, and the Castleman Quartet Program. Summer programs he has appeared in include Music@Menlo, Verbier Music Academy and Orchestra, Montecito Summer Music Festival, Interharmony, and Music Academy of the West.
Miclen’s primary instructors have been Charles Castleman, Ruggiero Ricci, Aaron Rosand, and Alice Schoenfeld.Miclen was recently a full scholarship student at the University of Miami Frost School of Music where he received his Artist Diploma in May under the tutelage of the legendary Charles Castleman. Previous studies include the Eastman School of Music and Colburn Conservatory.
Miclen performs on the 1714 Giuseppe Guarneri ‘filius Andreae’ “Sue Miller” violin donated by the Miller family and graciously on loan by the University of Miami Frost School of Music. On the Community Arts Program (CAP) 2018 Summer Concert Series with pianist Jennifer Snyder, Miclen brings a mesmerizing evening of César Franck, Camille Saint Saëns, John Corigliano, and Jenő Hubay!
