Title: IT Systems Officer

Accountable To: Head of ICT and Facilities

Section: Finances and Resources

Location: Southwark, London

Salary: NJC Grade D, point 31 – 33, £30,529 to £34,384 per annum incl. LW

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 35 hours per week, generally 9am to 5pm

About the Post:

The IT Systems Officer post sits within the ICT and Facilities team and the wider Finance and Resources directorate.

The post holder will have a key role in developing the current and future provision of IT infrastructure services, including the design, installation and support for our core business applications and systems. There are a number of key projects we want implemented including Encryption, Video Conferencing, Cloud hosting, Office 365, Office 2013 and Telephony system improvements. In addition the post holder will support users via email, face to face and phone on Microsoft desktop operating systems (currently Windows 7), Microsoft Office 2010 applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Flexibility:

In order to work effectively in a changing environment, flexibility is required from the post-holder.

Any other tasks that may be requested will be at the same or similar level of responsibility and terms and conditions of employment.

The post-holder must be prepared to travel to any of our other offices in the UK and to occasionally work varying hours.

Main Responsibilities

· To install, manage and upgrade file servers running Windows and VM operating systems.

· To develop manage and support the transition from our Exchange email system to Office 365.

· To manage and support corporate mobile phones and smart phones using Android and IOS operating systems.

· To develop, manage and support corporate mobility within the organisation.

· To deliver a reliable backup and restore process, regularly monitor and test backups to ensure these are functioning correctly.

· To be responsible for system maintenance such as the updating of software patches to desktop and server systems.

· To liaise with hardware and software support providers when problems occur with computer systems.

· Advise the Head of IT and Facilities on new systems and solutions which will could be adopted as part of our on-going departmental plans.

· To take a lead on system security, and proactively ensure our systems are updated in line with current good practice.

· To work with the Head of IT and Facilities to develop and test DR and Business Continuity plans.

· To undertake basic maintenance of Microsoft SQL databases.

· To setup and configure computers and terminals for new members of staff.

· To visit the National/Regional Centres as required and provide support and maintenance for the local IT hardware and software.

· To provide user and system support.

· To document system installations, to assist in future builds and add to a knowledgebase for future team reference.

General

· To maintain confidentiality regarding client information at all times and to operate within the organisation’s data protection policy.

· To attend team meetings, supervisions, training sessions, and staff meetings as required.

· To operate within the equal opportunities policy framework and implement the policy within this area of work.

· To be self-servicing in the area of administrative functions.

· To be flexible with regard to working hours where requested (some evening and weekend work may be required).

· To liaise with relevant staff and outside agencies as requested.

Person Specification - IT Systems Officer

Essential Criteria:

Knowledge and experience

· Significant experience in an infrastructure computer role.

· Significant experience of Windows 7 desktop and server operating systems using 2008/12, together with experience of deployment, administration and maintenance, including use of group policy and sysprep.

· Experience of the planning, deployment and administration of MS Exchange and Office 365 email systems.

· Experience of using Windows Remote Desktop Services or Citrix to rollout applications to user desktops.

· Experience of using and supporting Microsoft Office 20010/13 including Outlook, Word, Excel as well as Access or vbs programming.

· Experience of undertaking projects independently and seeing them through to completion.

· Excellent organisation and administrative skills.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills and telephone skills.

Desirable Criteria:

Knowledge and experience

· Experience of working in the voluntary sector – in a paid or unpaid capacity.

· Experience of creating PC image builds in a client management suite.

· Knowledge of LAN and WAN infrastructure and routing.

· Some experience of Microsoft SQL 2008/12 database administration.

· Experience of user training at a formal and informal level

· Knowledge of the setup and running of Video Conferencing systems
