TODAY’S PROGRAM
Richard and Ruth Gatza are board members of the Henry Ford Heritage Association which was formed to
foster interest in the life and accomplishments of Henry Ford. Richard is also a tour guide at the Ford Rouge Plant.
Henry Ford was a tinkerer at a young
age and also was an early believer in mass production when he worked as a watchmaker. This concept applied to the making of the 15 million Model Ts sold over its 19 year existence.
Henry Ford’s influence was great: (1) His $5/day salary helped create the middle class and allowed for his employees to actually purchase Ford vehicles. (2) He helped create jobs in many types of industries that supplied the materials for the manufacturing of his vehicles. (3) The abundance of vehicles allowed for greater travel which helped create the tourist industry and this led to the building of gas stations, restaurants, and hotels around the country.
On the negative side, manufacturing jobs were extremely demanding with tremendous turnover. During his later years, Henry Ford was very anti-union and used violence to fight their existence.
The Gatzas believe that purpose of the Henry Ford Association is to provide an accurate presentation of the man’s legacy.
FLOWER RAFFLE
$474 in the pot with $237 going to the winner. Al Ceravolo was unable to find the joker so the pot continues to grow. Thank you to Dave Charvat for supplying the beautiful flower arrangement.
