From the fact that the unbelievers and unrepentant are not made spiritually alive in the holy Supper, one should by no means conclude that they do not receive Christ’s body in a sacramental manner; rather, from this it can only be concluded that they do not eat Christ’s body nor drink His blood in a spiritual manner and that they are lacking (deficient) in the salutary use of this worthy food. 3. Christ is not only the Life of the believers, but He is also the Judge of the unbelieving and unrepentant. Therefore His body and blood are received by the believers to their life and salvation, but by the unbelievers to their judgment and damnation. 4. Is not the Word of the Gospel in itself a Word of Life and yet becomes to some a stench of death for death, 2 Cor. 2:14-16, namely, on account of their unrepentant stand? Is not God the Lord the essence of Life, and at the same time there are many who are not made alive in a spiritual manner, even though they already in God live, move, and have their being, Acts 17:28?
