The Child Protection Schools Liaison Officers (CPSLO) are part of Children’s Services: Safeguarding and Specialist Services. They are based in the Child Protection and Statutory Review Service at County Hall in Hertford and line managed by the Head of Child Protection.

The role of the team is to support schools to effectively safeguard children from harm, abuse and neglect.

This is in accordance with schools’ responsibilities under:

·  Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Board Inter-Agency Child Protection and Safeguarding Children Procedures 2010

·  Education Act 2002

·  Working Together to Safeguard Children 2013

·  Keeping Children Safe in Education 2014

The specific tasks of the team include:

·  Devising and delivering stage one and two safeguarding training to

whole school groups, Designated Senior Persons for child protection, Head Teachers and Governors

·  Supporting and challenging safeguarding arrangements and practice

·  Contributing to the School Review meetings

·  Attending strategy meetings regarding allegations against school staff

·  Working closely with schools to develop Risk Assessment Management Plans regarding children or adults who may pose a risk to others within the school community

Where there are concerns for a child a professional consultation is available by phoning the Targeted Advice Service on 01438 737511 (professionals only). Where there are clear concerns about risk of harm to a child, a referral should be made to Children’s Services: Safeguarding and Specialist Services on 0300 123 4043.
