Information for 2014-2015 Sader Belle Team Tryouts
Dear Sader Belle Applicant,
Congratulations on your decision to try out for the UMHB Sader Belle Dance Team! Here is the information for our upcoming try out weekend April 25th-26th. We look forward to meeting you and good luck!!
To be turned in Friday April 25th
- Sader Belle Application (5 points)
-Photo Copy of UMHB Acceptance Letter (5 points)
-Photo of Applicant (5 points)
-2 Letters of Recommendation from your Dance teacher/coach and Community Leader (Teacher, Pastor,
etc.) (10 Points towards your audition score)
To take place on April 26th
- Interview with Director (15 Points towards your audition score)
-Perform audition routine for Judges (60 Points towards your audition score)
These points will be broken down within the score sheet.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What should I wear to try outs?
A: For the Friday evening workshop on April 19th please wear black capris or dance pants, a t-shirt or appropriate work-out top, and dance shoes (preferably dance paws or jazz shoes). For the formal auditions on the morning of April 20th please wear all black. A black dance top or fitted black shirt, black jazz pants, and black jazz shoes. “Hot Shorts”, “Half Tops”, and anything revealing will not be permitted. Hair should be pulled back, off of the neck so the face can be easily seen. Performance make-up should be worn. Appearance will count towards your audition score.
Q: What should I do about meals and lodging for the audition weekend?
A: There are a variety of Hotels and Motels and different eateries in the Temple/Belton area. UMHB Sader Belles will not be providing any meals during the audition weekend. Each candidate is welcome to bring a snack (cereal bar, fruit, veggies, etc.) and water for both Friday and Saturday’s events. If you are planning to audition, please make arrangements to participate for both the Audition Workshop and Formal Auditions.
Q: Is the Audition Workshop or Formal Auditions open to the public?
A: No. Both the Audition Workshop and Formal Auditions are closed to the public and parents/family members. The interview with the Director will also be closed to the public and family members.
Q: How much does it cost to be a Sader Belle?
A: There is no fee for the try out weekend. Should a candidate make the team, there is a $200 new member fee. This will cover boots, dance team hat, dance shoes, practice shirts, tights, and any other personal items. Returning members will pay a $75 activity fee.
Q: Do Sader Belles receive a scholarship?
A: Yes. Each member of the Sader Belles Dance Team will earn a $500 scholarship during each Fall and Spring Semester. As long as the Sader Belle member remains in good standing with the University and the Team she will continue to earn the scholarship. Should the team member make the decision to leave the team or is removed from the team, the scholarship will be removed from her school account.
Q: Will the Sader Belles travel throughout the school year?
A: We will travel to NDA’s college team camp at SMU July 23rd-25th. The Sader Belles also travel to Richardson for the ADTS College One Day Dance intensive on August 7th. We perform at all home football games. Should the band travel during the regular football season, the Sader Belles will travel with them. We host a Football Playoff Conference; we will perform at all home playoff games. The Sader Belles will only travel for the Stagg Bowl Championship should the football team make that far in playoffs. The Stagg Bowl takes place in Salem, VA mid-December. During the Spring Semester, we will only travel to our Collegiate Competition. Any other travel plan information will be given to the team members as the need arises.
Audition Schedule
Friday April 25th
2014-Audition Workshop
Location: Mayborn Campus Center Rec Gym and Aerobics Room
6:00p-6:30p Registration with Director in Aerobics Room
-Here, the applicant will turn in the Sader Belle Application, photo, copy of UMHB acceptance
letter, and the 2 letters of recommendation. These documents must be turned in at that time.
6:30p-7:30p Warm-Up and Stretching with Returning Sader Belles in Campus Center Rec Gym
-The Sader Belle Officer Candidates will lead the team candidates in a group stretch and review
technique. Turns, leaps, and a high kick series will be covered at this time. The candidates will also be
put into try out groups and given an audition number.
7:30p-9:00p Learn Audition Routine in Campus Center Rec Gym
-The routine that will be performed for auditions will be taught in detail. Any questions over the
routine will be answered at that time.
Saturday April 26th
2014 Formal Auditions
Location-Mayborn Campus Center Rec Gym and Aerobics Room
8:30a-Check in with Director at entrance of the Rec Gym
-Each candidate will receive a try out number to wear for the duration of try outs.
8:45a-Group Warm-up with Sader Belles in the Rec Gym
-The Candidates will stretch, warm-up, and review the audition routine at this time.
9:15a-Formal Auditions begin in Aerobics Room
-Each try out group will audition in front of a panel of judges. After each candidate auditions,
she will have a short interview with the Director. This interview counts towards her audition score.
12:00p-12:30p-Conclusion of Formal Team Auditions
-After every candidate has auditioned for the judges, all candidates will be dismissed. Results
will be posted on the Mayborn Campus Center front door.

If you are unable to make it to auditions please follow these instructions:
**Plan B**
Please email the director to notify that you will be taking the Plan B Audition
Please mail in the following items:
-A DVD video of you dancing a solo with advanced turns, leaps, and higher level choreography.
-Filled out Application
-Photo Copy of UMHB Acceptance Letter
-Two Recommendation Letters
-A photo of yourself no larger than 5x7
**The Director will email back to set up a phone interview with the Candidate**
You will be notified the day of Formal Auditions if you made the team.
