Preamble

Eager to promote a closer bond among students of social work and to enter into more intimatefellowship with those dedicated to the promotion of humanitarian goals and ideals by aprofessional group which quality educational preparation is deemed imperative, students andfaculty involved in social work education at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, resolve to sponsor aChapter of Phi Alpha Delta Chapter National Honor Society, thereby to foster high standards of education forsocial work and to invite into membership those who have attained excellence of scholarship anddistinction of achievement as students of social work.

ARTICLE 1

The Supreme Law

This chapter of Phi Alpha Delta shall be affiliated with the organization known as Phi Alpha HonorSociety and to its National Council. The Constitution, membership and program shall beconsistent with the Constitution and Statutes of the national organization.

ARTICLE 11

Purposes

The purpose of this chapter of Phi Alpha Deltashall be:

Section 1. To recognize and promote scholastic achievement among students and facultyinvolved in the undergraduate and/or graduate social work program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Section 2. To recognize, improve and further the goals of social work in the community,state, nation and world.

Section 3. To organize, participate in and promote social action projects within the university community as well as the city, state, domestic and foreign entities.

Section 4. To stimulate interest in preparation for a career in social work.

Section 5. To encourage continued study and research at the undergraduate level, thegraduate level, and in professional practice.

Section 6. To recognize those professional social workers and others whose service,contributions and leadership are held in esteem.

ARTICLE III

Government

Section 1. The supreme governing body shall be the National Council as defined inthe National Constitution.

Section 2. The governing body of this Chapter shall be the duly elected officers andthe Executive Committee as defined in the By-Laws.

ARTICLE IV

Membership

Section 1. Any full-time, part-time, undergraduate and/or graduate social work student at University of Nevada, Las Vegas who meets the qualifications set forth in the By-Laws shall be eligiblefor active membership.

Section 2. Faculty members having an official connection with the social workcurriculum may be granted membership upon invitation of the Executive Committee andapproval of the Chapter membership.

Section 3. Honorary membership may be granted to professional social workers andothers whose support of social work education and practice merit such recognition.

Section 4: Membership dues will include thirty-dollar ($30.00) lifetime chapter dues in addition to the required National Phi Alpha membership dues. National dues are subject to change with or without notice.

Section 5: Each member of Phi Alpha Delta must maintain Grade Point Average (GPA) standards throughout the academic year.

Section 6: Each member must participate in a minimum of ten (10) hours of organization-recognized community outreach per year (September-June) to be considered an active member.

Failure to do so will result in removal from Phi Alpha Delta Honor Society membership. If a member is removed from the membership roles, membership dues will not be refunded. The student may reapply the following semester and pay all required dues again, including a renewal processing fee.

ARTICLE V

Insignia

Section 1. The official logo of the society shall be the Phi Alpha Key which wasapproved by the National Honor Society Committee. The key shall be issued to and wornonly by members of the society.

Section 2. Colors of the society shall be blue and gold as established by the NationalHonor Society Committee. Royal blue and light gold are preferred.

Section 3. Certificates of membership shall be issued to all new members.

ARTICLE VI

Meetings

Chapter meetings shall be held a minimum of six times during the academic year.

ARTICLE VII

Constitutional Amendments

Section 1. This Constitution may be amended by a majority vote of the ExecutiveCommittee and upon ratification by a majorityvote of the active chaptermembers present at the time of the vote.

Section 2. Amendments may be proposed to the Executive Committee by any activemember of the chapter. Amendment proposals must be made in writing.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION STATEMENT

Membership shall be available to all eligible persons without regard to age, gender, color, race, religion, class, citizenship status, political or sexual orientation, or disability.
