JOB TITLE:Progress Tutor (as part of the ND Pupil Premium Project)

GRADE:GR9007 Scale: E (Points 18-21)

RESPONSIBLE FOR:The tuition of Pupil Premium students in Englishand /or Maths as advertised, together with other pupils as appropriate

RESPONSIBLE TO:AssistantHeadteacher (Achievement)

HOURS:37 hours per week duringterm time plus 5 days to be scheduled.

8.30am-5pmMon-Thurs; 8.30-4.35 Friday

(including paid 20 minute break / 1 hour lunch each day)

  1. Purpose
  2. To provide tuition for pupils on a daily/ weekly/fortnightly basis to enable

academic progress.

1.2 To share responsibility for the education progress and well-being of all pupils in accord with school policies.

1.3 To endeavour to maintain and develop the Catholic character of the school in

accordance with the directions given by the governors and Headteacher.

1.4 To work as part of a team of tutors, liaising with, sharing practice with, and

supporting the team with a view to enhancing Pupil Premium student progress.

  1. Organisational relationships

2.1Responsible to Assistant Headteacher (Achievement) and to provide them with regular evaluation/data of intervention impact as determined e.g. ½ termly / termly.

2.2To report to the Lead Progress Tutor in terms of day-to-day / week to week matters relevant to this role, as well as attendance and personnel matters.

2.3 To attend the Student Achievement Tracking meeting as required.

2.4. To liaise with the Heads of English and Maths and/or the teacher in charge of

interventionregarding underachieving students andagree interventions/ curriculum

2.5 To liaise with relevant NDHS staff as appropriate.

2.6 To liaise with the Data Office for effective use of Bromcom e.g. registers / credits

2.7 To liaise with the Library staffe.g. in regard to Study Club provision.

3. Key Duties

3.1Students for intervention

1.Select and tutor Pupil Premium students as thefirst priority – see 4.5

2.Plan and deliver tuition interventionas a coherent programme of study e.g. weekly or fortnightly as required; 30mins or 50 mins as necessary

3.Select students from the Year Trackers with an agreed priority

4.Establish a core group e.g. around 50-60pupils to work with on a weekly / fortnightly basis as a guide e.g. 12 groups of 4-5 togetherwith any one-off additional classes such as revision; one-to-one or Literacy classes as deemed necessary

5.Confirm with AHT-Achievement Departmentteachers i/c Intervention

3.2Systems to support progress

  • Use exercise books / folders to an agreed system e.g. learning aims / standards of presentation etc.
  • Ensure there is a clear product of learning in each session
  • Ensure there is good use of assessment for learning evident in student work e.g. self-assessment; peer assessment; tutor marking; improving work based on feedback - blue-pen editing.
  • Provide home learning tasks e.g. key question/s; reading
  • To ensure a register is takeneach session on Bromcom MIS
  • Track progress of studentslesson by lesson / over the intervention
  • Oversee the Tutor intervention columns on the Year Trackers checked against Pupil Premium progress of student versus FFT-50
  • Contribute to termlyProgress Tutor Report
  • Contribute to and publish fortnightly rota for Tutor team
  • Contribute to use of Study Club registers / follow-up
  • Create timetable to an agreed template showing lesson / students / grades – with the focus on maximising tuition time.
  • Provide in-class support as required
  • Observe Dept. teachers / fellowTutors as part of a Peer Obs programme

3.3Structure of day

  • 8.30 Start
  • Attend Main Briefing /Tutor briefing / Dept Briefing
  • Tuition sessions
  • Planning and preparation time – c4/5 hours per week as a guide
  • In-class support – 2-3 lessons per week as a guide
  • Break 11.05-11.25
  • Study Club 12.30-1.15pm / 3.30-5pm to support students with homework
  • Twilight Revision / Exam / Key classes / CPD as appropriate
  1. Tuition Intervention for Students

4.1To provide tuition forstudents based primarily in the Learning Support Centre,

through mainlysmall group tuition sessions; some one-to-one and larger class based

exam-focused sessions.

4.2. To liaise with Departments to develop a plan of differentiated intervention, curriculum and targets.

4.3 To work with students in time-limited intervention to help them make progress based on key assessment criteria, in line with Department assessment practice.

4.4 To identify and timetable students for short-term / longer-term tuition.

4.5 To identify students equalling FFT-50 indicator or underachievingrelevant to that

indicator.

4.6 Liaison with parents e.g. emails; letters; parents evening; phone-calls; Bromcom events; well-done postcards etc.

4.7 To work with Heads of Year / use of homework concerns tosupport students with organisation and homework e.g. effective use of planner; use of revision schedule; producing good homework.

4.8 Publicise and supervise Study club 12.25-1.15pm and 3.30-5pm.

5. Other duties

5.1Set high expectations of conduct whilst acting as a role model and maintain professional relationships with all staff.

5.2Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students within the classroom within the school’s policies and procedures of equal opportunities.

5.3 Be aware of and apply policies and procedures relating to Safeguarding, Equal

opportunities, health and safety and security,confidentiality and data protection,

reporting all concerns to a named Safeguarding Officer.

5.4 Carry out their duties with the due regard to the school’s policies e.g. marking.

5.5 Maintain high expectations of all students with regard to behaviour, appearance,

punctuality and commitment to progress; and follow-up/ use systems as necessary.

5.6 Participate in training and other learning activities as required and to participate in

appraisal and professional development e.g. visits to schools to see similar programmes.

5.7Undertakes other similar activities and duties that fall within the grade androle as may be reasonably required by the Head teacher.
