CONTRACTOR ACCREDITATION LIMITED
Recognising and encouraging excellence in
Territory works and services
WHAT IS CAL ACCREDITATION?
CAL accreditation is an industry initiative to bring self-regulation to the Territory works and service industries.
CAL accreditation is a mandatory pre-qualification for contractors and sub-contractors to tender for most NT Government works and services projects.
CAL accreditation is administered by Contractor Accreditation Limited, a not-for-profit company sponsored by the NT Chamber of Commerce, Territory Construction Association and Small Business Association.
HOW DOES IT HELP INDUSTRY?
CAL accreditation tells your customers you adhere to the highest standards in your industry.
For businesses working with government, CAL accreditation is a mandatory pre-qualification to tender for a range of NT Government works and services contracts valued at over $50,000. The Northern Territory Government supports CAL accreditation as its method of determining whether contractors have the right financial, technical, management and procedural capacity to work on government contracts.
WHAT INDUSTRIES ARE COVERED?
Virtually all works and services undertaken on a contract or subcontract basis are covered by CAL. Professional advisory services such as architectural, engineering, accounting, legal or consultancy services are not covered by CAL.
Areas covered include:

· Electrical and power generation
· Roller and fire doors
· Locksmiths
· Fire prevention systems
· Air-conditioning and duct work
· Water, plumbing, sewerage and drainage systems
· Metal fabrication and welding

WHO SHOULD BE ACCREDITED?
· Contractors, subcontractors and project managers who want to tender for NT Government work over $50,000.
· Contractors and project managers who want to prove their financial, technical and managerial capabilities through a recognised accreditation scheme.
HOW DO I GET ACCREDITED?
Accreditation starts with you completing a detailed application form, which collects information about:
· Your commitment to the Code of Practice
· Your financial capacity
· Your technical capacity, and
· Your managerial capacity, including quality assurance, work health capacity and any licenses that may be required.
HOW WILL MY APPLICATION BE ASSESSED?
Financial capacity is assessed by an independent financial consultant through a strictly confidential process. CAL Directors and Assessment Panel members do not have access to or see your financial information.
Technical capacity is assessed by reviewing at least three projects you have undertaken recently. We will contact referees for each project.
Managerial capacity is assessed by reviewing the tools and processes you have in place to meet your obligations in terms of quality assurance, work health and licensing. We will ask you a series of questions about your plant and equipment, occupational health and safety systems, your labour force and training.
Once the independent auditor has assessed your financial information, the remainder of your application goes before a specially convened Assessment Sub Panel that is likely to include members from your industry. A full list of these industry members is available from CAL or from our website at www.accreditation.com.au
The whole accreditation process takes 4-6 weeks to complete.
HOW LONG DOES ACCREDITATION LAST?
