CLEARBROOK SOFTBALL LEAGUE RULES
1. TEAM ROSTERS are due by Friday June 3rd. After June 3rd roster changes may be made only for one of the reasons outlined in the MSF guidebook. Roster change forms will be available at KlosterPark. Roster changes MUST be made according to MSF procedures. MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE TO PLAY IN THE LEAGUE.
2. League dues must be paid in full by the 3rd week of league. Any team that does not pay by the 3rd week will be ejected from the league and will be suspended from league play the following year.
3. Teams will play a DOUBLEHEADEReach night they are scheduled. Forfeit time will be 15 minutes after the scheduled starting time of the first game, 30 minutes for the second game. Teams may be scheduled to play two doubleheaders on certain nights. Game time for the second doubleheader will be 15 minutes after both teams have completed their first doubleheader. There will be no grace period allowed for the second doubleheader.
4. TEN RUN RULE after 5 innings, 15 RUN RULE after 4 innings.
5. 3 BALLS = WALK, 2 STRIKES = STRIKEOUT. The 2nd strike must be hit fair. If it is fouled off, the batter is OUT and the BALL IS DEAD.
6. NO STEEL SPIKES. ALL bats banned by MSF/ASA will not be allowed. The list of banned bats will be kept at KlosterPark, and can be found at asasoftball.com.
7. Teams may reschedule a league game ONLY with the consent of the team they are scheduled to play (It is their responsibility to contact the other team, and then contact the league). If a makeup date cannot be agreed upon, the LEAGUE DIRECTOR WILL SELECT A MAKEUP DATE. RAINOUTS will be made up on a date selected by the LEAGUE DIRECTOR. Any rescheduled games that are not made up by the start of the league playoffs will be considered a DOUBLE FORFEIT with BOTH teams receiving TWO LOSSES in the standings.
8. Any team that FORFEITS 6 league games will be dropped from the league, and FORFEIT ALL OF THER LEAGUE GAMES. NO MONEY WILL BE REFUNDED to a team that is dropped from the league for excessive forfeits.
9. Teams may play with 8 or 9 players. If a team plays with 8, they MUST TAKE AN AUTOMATIC OUT whenever the 9th player would bat. There is NO PENALTY for playing with 9. Teams MAY choose to bat more than 11 players. All batters over 11, will be listed in the lineup as a DH (Designated Hitter) and MAY NOT play in the field.
10. A COURTESY RUNNER or FIELDER will be allowed, ONLY if a player is injured, and there are NO AVAILABLE SUBSTITUTES. The injured player MAY NOT RETURN to the game. The courtesy runner MUST be the last player to make an out or the farthest away in the line up. The courtesy fielder MUST be the 1st batter in the order after batter number 11.
11. HOMERUN RULE – Teams may hit FOUR (4) homeruns as long as the umpire has gameballs to use. Umpires shall bring a minimum of 4 softballs to start a game. If the umpire runs out of softballs and must stop play to send for more softballs, no more homeruns will be allowed in that game. TEAMS ARE EXPECTED to help shag balls that go out of play.
12. NO DRINKING on the playing field OR in the dugout area. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON THE PLAYING FIELD. ABSOLUTELY NO GLASS CONTAINERS IN THE COMPLEX. Players may be ejected if caught drinking on the field or in the dugout. NO SMOKING on the playing field. Teams must be pick up their containers after each game. All garbage must be picked up.
13. The use of PROFANITY will be penalized by “OUTS” being declared against the offending team. If the offending team is at bat, THE PLAYER IS OUT, unless the result of the play is an out in which case the NEXT BATTER IS OUT. If the offending team is in the field, the first player(s) to bat in their half of the inning WILL BE OUT. It is possible for a team to come to bat with one or more outs already recorded or lose their at bat altogether.
14. ANY PLAYER EJECTED FOR ARGUING with the umpire or another player will be given the following penalties:
1st OFFENSE – Suspended for the player’s next two league games
2nd OFFENSE – Suspended for one year
3rd OFFENSE – PERMANET SUSPENSION
ANY PLAYER EJECTED FOR FIGHTING will be given the following penalties:
1st OFFENSE – Suspended for one year
2nd OFFENSE – PERMANET SUSPENSION
ANY PLAYER WHO ASSAULTS AN UPMIRE OR LEAGUE OFFICIAL WILL BE SUSPENDED PERMANENTLY.
** Clearbrook tournaments will honor league suspensions.
15. ALL TIES in the league standings will be broken by the following procedures:
1. Head to head competition during the regular season.
2. Record against divisional opponents during the regular season.
3. One game playoff. (ONLY IF A TROPHY IS AT STAKE).
4. Flip a coin.
16. Teams will be seeded into the playoffs by their record. All Division winners shall be given the top seed according to their records. All remaining teams will be seeded.
