Perquisite: Static (ECIV 2311)
Course Aims:
This course aims to study the relations between the applied loads to a non-rigid body in one side and the deformations, strains, and stresses in another side. These relations involve the concepts and skills that form the foundations of structure and machine member designs.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding the behaviors of non-rigid body due to different load types.
- Stresses and strains distributions due to different loads combinations.
- Design of simple of structure and machine member for normal, shear and bending forces.
- Analyzing and design of real structure problems.
- This Course is considered the basis or prerequisite of many courses specially: Concrete technology, Structure Analysis Soil Mechanics, Reinforced Concrete Design and Design of Steel Structure and Manufacturing Processes.
Course Outlines:
- Introduction-Concept of Stress
- Stress and Strain-Axial Loading
- Torsion
- Pure Bending
- Analysis and Design of Beams for Bending
- Shearing Stresses in Beams and Thin-Walled Members
- Transformation of Stresses and Strain
- Principle Stresses under a Given Loading
- Columns Buckling
