Bio Pots
One of the biggest concerns in the greenhouse industryis the fact that they use so many plastic pots and they are so expensive and are not good for the earth. Also plastic pots are very costly to recycle so a lot of people don’t. So with that information it got me thinking of a pot that is biodegradable and can be planted in the ground when ready to plant it.
The name of my product is Bio Pots. Now they do have the plastic pots but along with that they have the jiffy peat moss pots but, are not very biodegradable or at least they don’t break down fast enough for the short lived annuals that need an established root system. The product that I want is a biodegradable material like cow deposits, rice, or crop residuesthen add it with some lubricants that bind the product. With this you would have a pot that you could plant your plug in and then let it grow and then you can easily plant the whole pot in the ground making it easier for cleanup and it is also easier on the landfills.
My intended customers are going to be large production greenhouse plant producers. The needs of the green house industry is that of reusable or biodegradable flower pots. It meets there needs because all the products that I have talked about because they want to go green and reuse pots. My product will be different from the other flower pots on the market because these are going to be made with all organic materials that make the pots biodegradable or reusable.
The size of market is huge because there are a lot of plant growers and everyone these days wants to go green, so it’s a great product to introduce. The opportunities for growth are also large because you can start making 4 inch pots then gradually introduce new sizes and shapes. The skills that I have to make this a reality is that I am a horticulturist and know a little bit about the industry and how nice it would be to plant the pot and the plant together and not have anything left over to throw away.
The reason this is the right time for this business is that the world is wanting to go ‘green’ meaning that people want recyclable and biodegradable products that will not fill up the landfill and make the earth cleaner, this alone will sell the product. The skills that I am looking for are people that are dedicated to a team and hard workers. People that have an interest in horticulture and can market the product. Also someone that can show me how to make the product better.
