Creative Kids at Kresge

Kresge Art Museum, MSU

EAST LANSING, MI – Kresge Art Museum is pleased to offer Creative Kids at Kresge, three kid-friendly art programs that complement the museum’s current exhibition Blast from the Past: Art of the 1960s (on view through March 19). Creative Kids at Kresge is made possible with a grant from the Dart Foundation.

These free Saturday, art-making activities are for children ages 5 through 12 accompanied by an adult. Families will meet at 1 p.m. for an interactive guided tour in the museum. After, kids and adults will respond to their viewing experience with a hands-on art-making activity. Kids accompanied by adults may attend one, two, or all three of the following programs:

Pop Art Pictures—Saturday, January 21, 1–3 p.m. Kids will tour and enjoy Pop art in the museum. Then they will create their own original Pop art pictures.

You Gotta Have HeART—Saturday, February 4, 1–3 p.m. In the museum, kids and families will explore heART inspired art. After, young artists will create their own art-inspired Valentines for friends and family.

Cool Collages—Saturday, March 4, 1–3 p.m. Kids will view and discuss art that features images from popular culture, after they will create their own cool collages.

“The Creative Kids at Kresge programs are designed to be a fun and interactive way for kids and adults to enjoy the museum together,” says Elizabeth K. Whiting, Kresge Art Museum’s curator of education who planned the family programs. “We encourage parents and kids who are planning to attend the programs to preview the exhibit on the museum’s website [www.artmuseum.msu.edu] as a great way to prompt a conversation about what they will see and do.” Also available on the website is “10 Tips for Families Visiting an Art Museum,” a helpful guide for families planning a visit to any museum. Kresge also offers a free colorful Kids’ Guide available at the museum desk to help parents and kids explore the Blast from the Past exhibit together. “Our goal is to inspire the kids of today to become lifelong museum-goers,” says Whiting.

Space is limited. Reservations are recommended. Call (517) 353-9834 to make a reservation. Kids must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
