Lithuania State Day is a national holiday observed on July 6. On this day, Lithuanians honor the coronation of Mindaugas, who became the first and only king of a unified Lithuania in 1253, bringing the Baltic people together under his leadership. In 2003 Lithuanians celebrated the 750th anniversary of his crowning with a series of cultural activities, including operas, folk music concerts, folk dance performances, parades, and festivals.

Days of live archaeology in Kernavė

International Festival of Experimental Archaeology is dedicated to commemorate the King Mindaugas coronation day – Day of the Statehood. During the event visitors may become acquainted with re-created crafts and lifestyle of prehistoric period and the Early Middle Ages. Visitors will have a chance to chop off piece of flint, to throw and to burn out a clay pot, to mint a coin, to shoot from a bow. Visitors will have a possibility to enjoy an impressive natural and historical environment, to listen to archaic music, to taste some ancient Lithuanian dishes.

Lithuanians have a new nice tradition of singing the Lithuanian national hymn at the same time all over the world on July 6th!

Lithuanians in the USA, Ireland, Belgium, Poland, the USA, in the resorts of Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and Egypt, even the holiday charter planes will join organized singing of the national anthem which is planned in Vincas Kudirka Sq. in Vilnius. This tradition was started on 6 July 2009 when Lithuania celebrated 1,000 years since the first mention of its name in written sources.
