EDUCATION AND TRAINING
EEarly Years Qualification no less than NVQ 3 or equivalent
DAdvanced Early Years Qualification
DCurrent Paediatric First Aid Certificate
ESafeguarding training
EXPERIENCE
ESubstantial post qualifying experience in an early years setting
DSenior level experience in Early Years Foundation Stage work
DSupervisory experience of Early Years workers
DExperience in a multi-cultural/multi-ethnic setting (user group and staff team)
DExperience of working for a Christian organisation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND APTITUDES
EThorough knowledge of child development
EKnowledge and experience of embedding Ofsted’s Early Years Foundation Stage requirements into everyday practice
DAbility to ensure food is nutritious and meets dietary and food safety requirements
EWillingness to keep up to date regarding Health and Safety aspects of food preparation
EAbility to support staff in developing and maintaining appropriate planning, observation and assessment procedures to ensure children make good progress.
ECommitment to keep up to date with changing professional practice and statutory requirements
EAwareness of child abuse (eg alerting signs) and ability to work within safeguarding procedures and policies
EUnderstanding of how discrimination affects individuals and groups and how to deal with discriminatory issues that might arise in an early years setting
DBasic understanding of special needs in the Early Years
EGood communication skills with young children, parents/carers, colleagues and other professionals
EStrong self awareness and ability to be appropriately assertive
EAbility to drive improvement forward
ESelf management and organisational skills, with the ability to work flexibly withincompeting priorities
EStrong communication skills with staff and ability to motivate good teamwork
EComputer literacy and, if necessary, willingness to develop skills
EReport writing skills, and basic numeracy.

EClear Ofsted and DBS checks and confirmation that there is nothing to suggest unsuitability for working with children
EAvailability to work outside normal nursery hours when the need arises, eg training, team meetings or public relations functions for the nursery or charity.
