The language below meets the basic guidelines for typical NIH grants. If Genomic Data Sharing does not apply, simply remove it from this document. Make any other relevant additions or modifications.

Resource Sharing Plan

Research resources generated with funds from this grant will be freely distributed, as available, to qualified academic investigators for non-commercial research. Our institution (University of Massachusetts) will adhere to the NIH Grants Policy on Sharing of Unique Research Resources including the “NIH Data Sharing Policy” issued in April 2007; http://grants.nih.gov/grants/policy/data_sharing/. Should any intellectual property arise which requires a patent, we would ensure that the technology remains widely available to the research community in accordance with NIH Principles and Guidelines document.

General Data Sharing Plan

Final data will be shared primarily through the vehicle of peer reviewed publication Raw data will be considered for sharing under the following rules. Raw datasets to be released for sharing will not contain identifiers. Data and associated documentation will be made available to users only under a signed and properly executed data-sharing agreement that provides for specific criteria under which the data will be used, including but not limited to: 1) a commitment to using the data only for research purposes and not to identify any individual participant; 2) a commitment to securing the data using appropriate computer technology; and 3) a commitment to destroying or returning the data after analyses are completed.

Genomic Data Sharing

We will make unique research resources generated through our Research Program readily available for research purposes to qualified individuals within the scientific community. All data collected will be placed in a data archive where it is documented, analyzed and stored in a data enclave-controlled, secure environment in which eligible researchers can perform analyses using data resources prior to publication. Data will be distributed to the public upon publishing articles in scientific publications whereby it can be accessed by the public through user friendly web based interfaces accessed through NCBI resources like GEO following published NIH guidelines for dissemination of research results.
