DIRECTOR OF PARISH SERVICES
Summary:
The full-time position of Director of Parish Services is directly responsible for the planning, coordinating, implementing, and overseeing of adult faith formation programs, retreat days, bible study, and social outreach, as well as special liturgies and events. The director also would be an ex-officio member of both the Parish Pastoral Council and Liturgy Committee.
Normal Work Days/Hours:
40 hours/week
Position Characteristics:
This position requires significant interaction and coordination with parish clergy and other staff members, as well as ministry leaders and volunteers. It also requires sensitivity to the nature of information he/she has access to, and must treat it with confidentiality.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Promote lay leadership and form leaders of ministries (both liturgical and pastoral); serve as liaison between ministry leaders and the pastor.
· Collaborate with parish clergy and laity in identifying the greatest needs and methods for evangelizing and teaching the Catholic Faith.
· Coordinate with RCIA Core Team members the sessions and rites for catechumens and candidates.
· Coordinate annual retreat days and workshops for parishioners; including Ladies Lenten Retreat Day, and Day of Reflection for Seniors.
· Assist clergy with logistics of Parish Mission (bi-annually; usually within Lent).
· Facilitate requests (via telephone and walk-ins) for short-term social services.
· Serve as liaison between St. Helena Parish (our sister parish) and MMR, particularly their community food bank and the “Santa Sack” program for their PREP students.
· Work with volunteers in monitoring our food bins and the distribution of donations.
· Form and oversee a committee for Seniors’ activities.
· Serve as main administrator of scheduling using the Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP), as well as a continuous “help desk.”
· Direct special annual liturgies, including Mass for Married Couples, All Souls’ Mass, and Thanksgiving Day Mass.
· Direct special events, including the volunteer breakfast (bi-annually), Manna Bag Food Collection (annually), ministry fair (periodically), and Advent Wreath Making (annually).
· Assist Parish CRS Ambassador with local CRS programs.
· Participate (on limited basis) in Evangelical Catholic.
· Promote, incorporate, and monitor the use of FORMED.
· Attend monthly staff meetings.
· Attend Pastoral Council meetings (as an ex-officio member).
· Attend Liturgy Committee meetings (as member).
· Provide marketing information about parish services events and liturgies to be submitted for the bulletin (including inserts/flyers), weekly electronic newsletter (“Tuesday Blast”), e-mail, and narthex monitor, website, and Facebook.
· Create and maintain a yearly budget for Parish Services.
· Attend Archdiocesan meetings for Adult Faith Formation leaders hosted by the Office of the New Evangelization.
Qualifications and Skills:
The Director of Parish Services must have a firm foundation in Catholic theology and liturgy, ensuring that all pastoral instructions and liturgical practices at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish are in accordance with the teachings and liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church. Additionally:
· Bachelor’s degree in Theology or Religious Education, or with at least 5 years’ experience in these or similar fields.
· Prior experience working in a Catholic parish or school setting, understanding the dynamic of parish life and the relationship of a parish to the Archdiocese.
· Strong written and oral communication skills; interpersonal and public relation skills.
· Competence in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Church Office software, and FORMED.
· Experience in recruiting and leading volunteers (excluding volunteers to staff the Parish Office).
· Dependable.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Exceptional time management and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with the pastor, parochial vicars, deacons, lay staff, volunteers, and all parishioners.
This person must provide (or obtain prior to employment) clearances required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: PA Criminal Background Check and FBI Fingerprint Check. Also, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires “Safe Environment” Training Parts I and II (Mandated Reporting training).
