SENIOR MANAGER / PREFERRED SHARES SPECIALIST

CIBC Wood Gundy offers in-depth investment expertise on a comprehensive range of investments including industry-leading managed solutions, securities (equities, bonds, trust units, mutual funds, alternative investments), as well as estate planning. CIBC Wood Gundy's extensively trained and accredited Investment Advisors help clients build and preserve their investment portfolios.

JOB PURPOSE

The successful candidate will provide information and advice regarding Canadian preferred shares to the Investment Advisors of CIBC Wood Gundy. These recommendations will be based on research and knowledge of financial markets, portfolio management, and how preferred shares can be used to achieve an investor’s goals. The successful candidate will be required to communicate their ideas to Investment Advisors directly as well as through Investment Strategy Group’s publications. The Preferred Shares Specialist will also be required to build customized preferred share portfolios for Wood Gundy clients.

The Canadian Preferred Shares Specialist will work with other investment specialists and will assist in Investment Strategy Group activities including responding to Investment Advisor requests, conference calls, presentations, and other services provided by the team.

As a Senior Manager within the team, the successful candidate will also take on the role of editor-in-chief of all of the team’s publications and communications. The Senior Manager reviews, edits and signs off on the Investment Strategy Group’s daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and ad hoc publications, which consist of stock and bond market commentary, discussions of economic events, as well as equity, preferred share, and mutual fund investing ideas. This demands that the successful candidate is detail-oriented and has strong writing skills in addition to knowledge of financial markets.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Preferred Shares Specialist

·  Stay abreast of financial market developments including economic and interest rate outlooks, preferred shares trends, etc.

·  Generate preferred share and convertible debt investing strategies and ideas

·  Produce the quarterly Preferred Share Commentary and maintain the Investment Strategy Group Preferred Shares Yield Tables

·  Develop customized preferred share portfolios for CIBC Wood Gundy clients

·  Communicate preferred share and convertible debt ideas to advisors via occassional branch presentations and conference calls

·  Respond to ad-hoc requests from investment advisors

Senior Manager/Editor-In-Chief

·  Review and edit all publications produced by Investment Strategy Group. The manager’s responsibility is to ensure all publications are of high quality and meet the needs of our advisors and clients. Publications are edited and reviewed to enhance clarity, avoid misrepresentation and ensure compliance with applicable guidelines and policies.

·  Coordinate the production of the group’s flagship Monthly World Markets Report. This includes coordinating content with the various contributors, authoring content, editing all content, desk top publishing (layout, formatting, etc) and coordinating the translation and printing of the report.

·  Stay abreast of financial markets.

·  Provide recommendations regarding how to improve the publications and how to better market the team’s products and services to the Investment Advisors.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

·  This role requires that the successful candidate be able to manage their individual workload around the scheduled editing of publications produced by Investment Strategy Group. The successful candidate must be team oriented and must be able to prioritize the work load to ensure deadlines are met.

·  The Preferred Shares Specialist may be required to work with the Training and Development team to create and deliver presentations to help investment advisors and their assistants better understand the Canadian preferred share market

JOB DIMENSIONS

·  National Canadian research coverage on preferred shares for a sales force of over 1000 advisors.

·  Author and/or contribute to publications that are accessible by all CIBC Wood Gundy clients.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

·  Undergraduate degree with a major/specialization in Business or Finance

·  CFA Charter

·  Very strong knowledge of Canadian preferred shares and the wealth management business.

·  Broad knowledge of equity markets and convertible bonds with a minimum five years investment experience.

·  Experience writing reports for clients

·  Knowledge and understanding of Bloomberg and Thomson ONE

·  Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills; Visual Basic and Microsoft Access skills a plus
