ESSENTIAL UNIT 2(E02)

(Developing Technique)

Unit Statement: Throughout this unit the student will continue to develop his/her techniques for an individual instrument. Technique includes improving tone and quality by developing tonguing skills, dynamics and range of notes.

Essential Outcomes:(assessed for mastery)

  1. The Student Will recognize and label sixteenth notes and sixteenth rests.
  1. TSW count various rhythms which contain sixteenth notes and sixteenth rests.
  1. TSW name and play concert A flat major scale and at least one other major scale upon request which include thirds.
  1. TSW continue to improve tone and quality of his/her individual playing ability.
  1. TSW perform a duet or trio of his/her choice.
  1. TSW demonstrate an ability to tongue quarter notes, eighth notes and/or sixteenth notes clearly. Orchestra students play smooth legato notes.
  1. TSW distinguish between various dynamics and will show a difference in dynamics while playing his/her instrument.

2. A Practical Test: TSW be asked to play;

a)at least 2 major scales (one which will be Concert A flat major) to demonstrate tonguing skills using quarter notes, eighth notes and sixteenth note (TSW 6, TSW3)

b)Orchestra students play legato notes.

c)at least 1 major scale which includes thirds (TSW 3)

d)a duet or trio of his/her choice (TSW 5)

e)1 or 2 lines from the student band book. (TSW 4, TSW 6, TSW 7)
