INTRODUCTION

My name is Mr Gaynor and I have the pleasure of being your childs science/biology teacher. I would like to take this opportunity at the start of the year to introduce myself. I am originally from London, UK and this is my second year at the Shanghai Singapore International School and my third year in Shanghai, China. I studied Human Biology at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland and my research on neurodevelopment was published. I qualified to teach secondary (middle/high) science from King’s College London and taught all high school grades in London including G7, G8 level science, GCSE level biology, chemistry and physics as well as A Level Biology. I have also set up and established a new Biology A level department at my previous school/ I am currently studying for my Masters of Education at the University of Bath and my research interests are the use of assessment and technology to improve learning. I use my studies in my everyday teaching and my experience to establish a positive student centred learning environment.

COMMUNICATION via CLASS BLOG and WIKISPACE

I have designed a class blog (www.mrgaynorsclass.com) and wikispace (http://mrgaynorsclass.wikispaces.com/) These websites will be used to share resources with students as well as being a platform to display and share students work, to allow students to comment on their own as well as each other’s work, and share classroom activities with parents. You can use these websites to keep up to date with your child’s learning as well as what else is going on in the science department. All students are free to leave comments on the blog although before they are published I will moderate the content if necessary.

CONTACT INFORMATION

One of my goals entering this new school year is to improve the teacher/parent relationship. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with your questions or concerns regarding your childs progress. I will get back to you as soon as possible. My preferred method of communication is via email although I welcome text messages and calls if that is your preference. To enable this communication to take place, I would be most grateful if you could send me an email to introduce yourself, share your contact information (telephone/mobile number) and share your concerns for the year. I will then email you back a year outline and assessment schedule. If you also tell me your language preference I will try to use Google Translate to translate all communication into the language of choice. In addition I would appreciate it if you could send me a SMS or email before school starts if your child is going to be absent or late. I look forward to a very successful year.

Yours faithfully,

Steven Gaynor E-mail: Mobile Number:15021909221
