New Member Range Orientation
¨ Shooting Hours - OUTDOORS - 8:00 AM until Sunset – Monday thru Saturday
1:30 PM until Sunset – Sunday
INDOORS - 8:00 AM until 10:00 PM - Monday thru Saturday
1:30 PM until 10:00 PM - Sunday
Sunset is an exact time, not when it is too dark to see. You can find sunset times on the club
website (rrpc.org), the weather channel, newspapers or in the hunting laws handbook. The
sunset stop time is set by the County, not the club, and shots fired before 8:00am and after
sunset can cause us legal problems.
Sunday start times are later because of the church nearby.
When ranges will be closed, for matches or special events, the information will be posted in
the club newsletter. Emergency Closings (such as a funeral at the nearby church, or an unsafe condition on a range) will be posted on the front gate.
¨ Gates - There are 2 gates on the property that you need to know about. The Front Gate and the Lower Ranges Gate. The Front Gate is opened with your personal fob. DO NOT give this fob to anyone.
The gate will close automatically after you go thru. When bringing in a guest in their car,
they may follow right behind you and the gate will not close on them.
The Gate to the Lower Ranges is at the first turn off after you enter the property. This gate is opened with your fob, just as the front gate is.
When leaving the club, both gates will open automatically as your car approaches from the
inside.
¨ Fobs – Each new member will receive a fob to the club. This fob is for your use and your use only. Your fob will open the front gate, the skeet clubhouse, the main clubhouse door, the side clubhouse door, the double range doors and the lower ranges gate.
Always bring your fob with you or you may get locked in or out.
Remember that anything you open with a fob, needs to be locked when you leave.
Always wear your membership ID when on club property. ID holders are available inside the clubhouse.
¨ Guest – Each member may bring up to 4 shooting guest with them at a time.
A member and their guest may take no more than 3 firing points at a time.
Any one Guest is limited to 3 times a year, if they are here more than that, they should be encouraged to join.
There is no restriction on out of town guest visits.
There is also no restriction on the number of times your family comes with you. This is almost like a family membership, except that they may not use the property unless you are with them.
¨ Reminder List -eye, ears, targets, frames, staple guns and clean up – also gun and ammo.
All ranges except the plinking and shotgun ranges are for paper targets on wooden holders.
Be sure to clean up behind yourself. This means sweeping, picking up brass and depositing all trash in an appropriate container.
¨ No Hunting Rule – No hunting on club property at any time. There are too many members to be able to manage the area properly.
¨ Conduct – All members are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.
Treat all club members and guest with a friendly manner and respect. Also have respect for club property. Club dues are directly related to how well club property is taken care of. If you are not sure if something is appropriate, don’t do it, because it probably is not.
¨ Emergencies – For major emergencies, there is a trauma Kit on the rifle range and the indoor range. These kits are not for cuts and headaches, but for major accidents. There is also a CPR mask in the kit. Telephones are located in the clubhouse and the indoor range.
¨ Range Officer – The first member to arrive at a range has the right to act as range officer if needed. (for informal shooting)
The norm is to just decide among everyone, when to have a cease-fire to add or change targets.
¨ Board Approved Events – All range rules or uses may be modified for Board Approved events. These events must be taken to the Board in writing for review of use and safety considerations.
For organized shoots, which are Board approved, ranges on either side of the range being used may be temporarily closed, if deemed necessary by the shoot director or safety officer.
¨ Class III – Class III guns (full automatic) may only be shot on our ranges after you have been cleared by the class III chairman and the Board.
This involves meeting with the chairman and showing you have the proper paper work and skills to handle the gun. When the chairman is satisfied that you are legal and competent, he will recommend you to the Board and they will give permission to you for use.
You may let others shoot your gun, ONLY under your immediate supervision.
At this time Class III may only be shot on the plinking range.
¨ Gun Handling – All actions are to be open except when on firing line.
An exception is made for break-open actions to be put in the gun racks on the shotgun ranges because of the design of our racks.
No guns are to be handled when there are people downrange.
Loaded firearms are to be handled on a firing line ONLY.
¨ Volunteers – This is a self-help club. Club members built almost everything you see at this club. You will be expected to give a hand from time to time to help on projects that you have an interest in or have the skills to do.
Having club members do the work is what keeps the dues low and helps to have club members get to know each other.
Lower Ranges
¨ Archery Range
This range may be shot from Sunrise until Sunset 7 days a week – no noise
3D targets along side of road to lower ranges
Broad heads may be used
Bow holders are beside each target, when looking for missed shots, bow must be in holder to notify shooters coming up that someone is downrange.

¨ PPC – Practical Police Combat
You may use handguns, rifles and tactical shotguns on this range ( no aerial targets )
This is a holster range, set target, load, fire, unload and holster
Shoot directly down range at paper targets, making sure that all bullets impact the earthen berm.
Target holders for this range and all others are available for 20.00 from Dave White or Steve Sandow. These are metal holders that you add your wood to for attaching targets.
This range runs independent of the rifle range next door, because of the earthen berm between them.
¨ Rifle Range
This range is for rifles and slug shotguns only, with the exception of sighting in of hunting pistols at the sight in benches
Site in frames are set at 25 / 50 / 100 yards
Three benches are provided for sight in and true bench rest shooting.
All targets are to be set at 100 yards (except for the permanent sight in frames)
If all users agree or you are the only member on the range, you may place your target at the 100-yard mark and shoot from the 50-yard berm. You may not place targets at the 50-yard mark.

This range runs independent of the PPC and pistol ranges next door, because of the earthen berms between them.
¨ Pistol Range
This is a Safety Range of 25 and 50 yards
Handguns only, from a standing position
The high baffle about 10 yards out prevents high misses from going over the berm and leaving our property.
The railroad tie barrier in front of the 25-yard line protects the metal mechanisms from damage from low shots and prevents low misses from leaving the property.
NO TARGETS are to be posted on the high or low barriers (constant shooting will wear away the wood)
25-yard targets must be placed using proper wood holders – Dimensions are on the web-site.
50-yard targets use a piece of cardboard slid between the tabs on the holders
This range runs independent of the rifle range and the plinking range to the left.
Plinking Range
Any guns may be shot here
You may use fun targets here – tin cans, plastic bottles filled with water, balloons, wood blocks, most anything you can clean up and will not cause ricochets such as bowling pins and hard metals.
NO glass – It is impossible to clean up completely.
Swing Arm and reactionary targets are O.K.
All targets must be placed on or below the target cable
Clean up behind your self. Leave the range cleaner than you found it.
There is no berm between the plinking and 300 yard range. You must coordinate going downrange with the 300 yard range.
¨ 300 Yard Range
This range is 300 yards ONLY.
Only rifles capable of accurate 300 yard fire may be used here.
There is a target board and gongs.
There are safety issues on this range if not used properly.
No targets at lesser yardage due to no proper back stops.
When downrange all shooting must stop on the plinking, pistol and rifle ranges. Because of this and the length of time needed to go down and back, this range is subservient to the Plinking, pistol and rifle ranges.
This means that you must wait for all the other ranges to give the OK before you go downrange.
When using this range by your self, the bell (located on the bench) must be on for the entire time you are down range.
Upper Ranges
¨ Shotgun Ranges –
2 shotgun ranges – Skeet on the upper and Trap and 5-Stand on the lower. You may use shot sizes of 9, 8 and 71/2 in low brass (low power)shells ONLY .
Due to the complexity and cost of the traps, Shotgun committee workers only, run these.
The fields are open to members and the public on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 till 5:00.
One or both fields are usually open on Wednesday afternoons/evenings during Daylight Savings Time for Members and invited guest.
You may bring your own thrower and skeet for practice as long as the shots go in the direction that regular shots on these fields go.
Shotgun committee workers give a Sunday a month to run the fields for other members. In exchange for this, they get the right to use the fields at other times for practice. If you are using the field with your hand thrower and a committee worker wants to open the field, then he has that right, but he also has to offer to let you shoot with him. The machine birds are a lot more fun anyway.
¨ Indoor Range –
This range is for pistols and Carbines of pistol calibers Only.
No .17 rimfire mag., .50 cal. Or hyper-velocity as in .460 S&W.
A general rule of thumb is, velocities must be under 2,000 FPS
Higher velocities may damage the backstop.
No shotguns or blackpowder guns.
All lights from Firing point forward are switched from the control room.
A switch at either door (clubhouse or double outside) controls the lights at the back of the range.
Electricity for the heat is in the box on the shotgun range side of the range. The breakers are marked with red tape. Turn breakers on for the electric heater and you will hear the motor start.
After turning on the breaker for the gas heat, you need to turn the timer on the wall on other side of the door. Timer for the left side of the range is directly on the opposite wall.
YOU MUST HAVE THE EXHUST FAN ON WHEN SHOOTING.
Top green button is for the fan on the right side of the range, Bottom for the left. (resets)
Barrels are provided for brass and non-brass casings. Please separate, because we recycle the brass. The more non-brass in the mix, the less we are paid for it.
A variety of brooms and pans are here. Clean up after yourself. Sweep the back, the center of the range, to get up target dust and the bottom end to get up the lead splatter.
The toggle switches and buttons on the left side panels of each station control the target carriers. Toggle up takes carrier downrange, toggle down moves carrier in towards you.
Be careful not to slam the carriers into the stop. The less wear and tear the longer it is between repairs. Remember that repairs are done by volunteers, no one volunteers and you do not get to use it, unless you fix it.
Paper targets only on this range. Targets must be attached to cardboard backers so that high misses do not impact on the carriers.
Floor Colors – No targets posted in the Yellow area – first lights are at the yellow/green line.
No standing in the Red area – danger of back-splatter
To shoot closer than the Yellow line, if no one shooting on the regular firing line, you may stand anywhere in the yellow or green area and run your target at any length you like.
You may stand down range when shooters are on the other side, but DO NOT go further down range than the red area on the wall, due to possible ricochets.
Shoot straight down range and make sure that your shots hit the backstop in the middle.
No food or drink in the indoor range, for health reasons. Ingestion of contaminates with no filtering.
When through shooting, wash hands with cold water and soap. Cold water closes the pores where hot water opens them.
