COURSE DESCRIPTION:Students, at the direction of the instructor, work on customer vehicles applying skills learned in previous automotive classes. Students will be required to complete ASE/NATEF tasks not completed in other courses. Customer relations, repair order preparation, scheduling, estimating, utilization of shop space and equipment, and hazardous waste management are covered to provide students with an understanding of repair shop operations.
PREREQUISITE(S):Instructor permission or completion of first year automotive classes.

COURSE GOALS:The student will develop entry level skills as they become accustomed to the operation of a modern repair shop.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
1.Accurately complete the vehicle repair order including VIN, mileage, date of manufacture and license plate number
2.Demonstrate the proper use of seat covers, floor mats, and the key numbering system
- Accurately perform several diagnosis and repairs of vehicles with various operating problems
- Correctly and safely use modern diagnostic test equipment when diagnosing and testing these vehicles
- Properly handle and dispose of used oil, coolant, and other hazardous waste developed in normal automotive repair shop operations.
- Develop written communications skills explaining each days progress
COURSE CONTENT OUTLINE:
The student will work on various automotive projects assigned by the instructor.
EVALUATION METHODS/GRADING PROCEDURES:
The student will be required to complete a daily time sheet detailing the activities accomplished during each shop period. Points will be awarded for each day’s work. Points will be lost for:
TardinessPoor quality work
Poor work habitsImproper use of tools
Unsafe work habitsImproper care of tools
Failure to follow directionsPoor Attitude
Misspelling or illegible writing
Improper handling of hazardous waste
No points will be earned if the student is absent or does not have the proper safety equipment including approved eye protection, coveralls and leather boots or work shoes.
