Information for Developmental League Players and Parents– 2014/15

Indoor season is available to players born in 2005(U9), 2004(U10), 2003(U11), and 2002(U12)

  1. The Program - The Developmental Program provides an excellent alternative to the recreational soccer program. The Developmental Program is specifically designed for those who want to excel in soccer. The primaryfocus is on individual and team development through practice and training.The Program is run by FC Northwest under the auspices of the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association. Team Coaches, Assistants and other team staff are under the supervision of FC Northwest. FC Northwest is the only club in Manitoba affiliated with the Italian Club Chievo Verona and Global Image Sports.
  1. Scheduling - Provided by the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association (WYSA). Developmental league teams will play October through March. Girls games are generally scheduled on Saturday; Boys on Sunday in any one of the indoor facilities throughout the city.
  1. Player Commitment – Players are expected to attend all scheduled practices and games, along with taking the initiative for their own personal development by attending sanctioned camps and clinics provided by the Club to build and maintain conditioning and work independently to improve skill level beyond team games and practices. Teams will be scheduled for 1 game per week and a minimum of 2 training sessions per week. In addition some coaches may chooseto participate in local and out of town tournaments.
  1. Player Assessments – Player assessments are held in order to ensure that teams are formed on a balanced basis. The assessment sessions will be fast paced and physically demanding, giving an indication of the intensity expected for training and playing in the Developmental League. Assessments are performed by coaching staff selected by and under the direction of the Club Head Coach. Basic skills are evaluated. The number of players is limited by roster size.

Players must be registered to attend assessments.

  1. Playing time – All players are subject to the “Fair Play Rule” as defined by WYSA Rules and Regulations. Every player must have the opportunity to play at least 50% of the game during matches except whenlimited by injury or disciplinary rulings, imposed by the league, Club or Coach. The policy affects all matches under the auspices of WYSA.

6.Tournaments – Tournament participation is encouraged and is at the discretion of the team, subject to approval from the Club Head Coach and Board of Directors. Out-of-town tournamentsincur higher expenses and all teams should consider fundraising activities to defer tournament and other team expenses.Parents and players must be aware the potential for additional financial commitments.

  1. Registration Fees – Fees for the 2014/15 indoor season has been set at $435.

8.Refunds – Fees are payable in full at the time of registration. Payment options can be discussed with the Treasurer at . Any player who cannot be placed on a team or any player wishing to withdraw before the formation of teams will be entitled to a refund of the fees paid, less $25.00 to cover administration and facility costs for assessments,AS TEAMS WILL BE FORMED UPON COMPLETION OF ASSESSMENTS.

9. Uniforms–Uniforms and socks are provided and remain the property of the FC Northwest.Goalkeepers: are provided with a jersey, shorts and gloves.

10.Attendance at team events – Attendance at practices and games is mandatory unless excused by the coach. Players are responsible for obtaining permission from the coaching staff in the event they are unable to attend or will be late for a game, training session or other team function. Illness, injury and necessary school functions are acceptable reasons for being absent or late. If physically possible, injured players are expected to continue to attend games and training sessions.

11.Conduct of Players, Parents and Spectators–While the focus of the program is individual and team development, it is still a competitive activity. Respect for team mates, coaching staff, opponents, game officials and spectators is essential and violations will not be tolerated. Parents and spectators are a key component to all children’s activities and their encouragement on and off field is necessary.

Participation in the Development League represents a significant commitment on behalf of players and parents.
