MRS. MARTA MAYER

E-mail:

GREETINGS! I am delighted to be teaching Spanish again to your wonderful children. As you may know, in addition to grammar, writing and vocabulary, online games and research, your children will have oral exercises in class to make them comfortable with pronunciation. They will recite poetry, singsongs, play listening games like Dice Simon (Simon Says), read out loud, and uselearned vocabulary in simple conversationalexercises. And hopefully they’ll have some fun too!

Please feel free to contact me with any concerns. The best way to reach me is via e-mail, which I usually answer within a couple of days. I look forward to another great yearat RDMS! ☺Señora Mayer

CLASS MEETS EVERY DAY. We are privileged to be meeting every day, at the same time.

GRADING SCALE. Marking period grades are determined as follows:

  • Tests - 45%
  • Quizzes – 30%
  • Homework - 15%
  • Preparation and participation- 10%

Students will receive review packets or sheets for announced tests. There is nodropping of lowest test grade. Extra help is available in the afternoons. Extra credit is generally not available.

MAKING UP WORK AFTER ABSENCES. When a student is absent, test and homework grades will be marked as zeros until any missed homework and tests are made up. It is up to the student to make sure that all work is turned in promptly; work especially tests must be made up promptly.

HOMEWORK. With the exception of holiday weekends and vacations, students will alwayshave homework assigned every time we meet, so please check that it is done.

NO MIDTERMS/FINALS. None are currently given in world language classes at the middle school.

RESOURCES FOR LEARNING SPANISH.We use the Realidades 1 learning series by Pearson Education, which includes a home copy of the textbook, workbook pages,an on-line textbook, and many on-line practice activities. It’s a terrific resource for the students. I also incorporate other audio/video and written resources, PowerPoint presentations, and manipulatives.

WEBSITE TOOLS FOR PRACTICE. I have created Review Games such as flashcards and concentration, specifically on the vocabulary and grammar that is currently being learned, and they are a great tool for reviewing for Spanish tests. Go to the school website under Faculty, click on Mayer, Marta, thenUseful Links, then Review Games. Students must log into SchoolWires to see this option.

WHEN IS EXTRA HELP? On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons, students are welcome to come for questions, to work on homework, or to review for tests. Time is from 2:45 pm until 3:05, or later as needed. Grade 8 students can also come for help or makeup tests during Grade 8 lunch; Grade 7 students can also come during their lunch for make-up tests only. (This year during Marking Period 1 only, extra help will be from 3:05 to 3:30 due to an after-school duty that I have been given).
