KEYBOARDING CURRICULUM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1. Each student will understand the vocabulary associated with computer use.

2. Each student will be familiar with the parts of the computer.

3. Each student will demonstrate the proper keyboarding techniques.

4. Each student will type the alphabetic, numeric, and symbol keys using the Touch Method.

5. Each student will proofread material and will become proficient at completing a perfect document.

6. Each student will successfully complete timed writings within the error limit.

7. Each student will demonstrate the following formatting procedures correctly: horizontal centering, simplified and standard memos, personal/business letters, and unbound reports.

8. Each student will operate the numeric keypad with accuracy and speed.

9. Each student will accurately complete simulations presented in the textbook in a give timeframe.

10. Each student will work individually on a practice set. They will demonstrate a competency in formatting documents in a timely manner.

· Correct Posture for Keyboarding

· Alphabetic Keyboard using Touch-Method of Learning

· Number Keyboard using Touch-Method of Learning

· Proofreading material keyboarded and circling errors made

· Punctuation Spacing

· 2-minute timed writings with a maximum of 6 errors allowed

GRADING PERCENTAGES FOR QUARTER 1

Keyboarding Technique -- 20%

Major Evaluations/Tests -- 20%

Five 2-minute Timed Writings -- 20%

Quizzes/ Keyboarding Production* -- 40%

*No deduction for proofreading errors that are circled. Five (-5) points for each error that is found that has not been circled.

· Symbol Keyboard using Touch-Method of Learning

· Numeric Keypad using Touch-Method of Learning

· Introduction of Keyboarding Formats*

· Horizontal/Vertical Centering

· Unbound Reports

· 3-minute timed writing with a maximum of 6 errors allowed.
