Apprenticeship programme
Our award winning scheme has been running since 2013, annually recruiting up to 13 apprentices to enrol on an NVQ level 2 in Formwork.
Byrne Bros.’ training centre in Mitcham is a satellite college for the Norfolk based CITB National Construction College (NCC), which allows us to train and educate our apprentices from our own site in London, without the need for a residential stay at the college in Norfolk. This unique approach to training means that, on average, Byrne Bros. has received over 100 applications per year, for the 13 vacancies.
Our apprenticeship scheme runs for two years, and provides apprentices with the opportunity to work on prestigious London landmarks, such as the Battersea Power Station redevelopment and the Paddington Crossrail station. Whilst on-site, apprentices work closely with a supervisor, picking up vital knowledge and learning from their expertise. Byrne Bros. has two dedicated training rooms and a workshop at its Mitcham training centre, solely for the apprenticeship scheme. In addition to the basic NVQ framework, apprentices receive further training, such as manual handling, behavioural safety and the use of power tools.
Byrne Bros. Apprenticeship Scheme facts:
Applicants for the apprenticeship have come from as far as Newcastle and Ireland. Byrne Bros. apprentices have won two awards: the CONSTRUCT Apprentice of the Year Award, and the CITB London and South Formwork Apprentice of the Year Award.
Byrne Bros. was the first employer in London working in collaboration with the National Construction College to deliver formwork apprenticeships in London.
