1 / Reef Alliance – Growing a Great Barrier Reef / This project will improve water quality across the Great Barrier Reef by enabling landholders to change practices in cane, grazing, dairy, horticulture, bananas, grains and cropping. Delivered, for the first time, by an integrated Great Barrier Reef wide consortium of farmers, graziers, Natural Resource Management organisations and industry groups, this project will redefine delivery of the Reef 2050 Plan.
The project will transform links between Reef programs, regions and industry Best Management Practice by transcending geographic and administrative boundaries. 2 / Project Catalyst Revamp - game changing farm management practices / The project will identify, implement and validate pathways to rapid adoption of enhanced management practices leading to significant water quality improvements for the Great Barrier Reef. The project builds on Project Catalyst - a grower led innovation project - to enhance the adoption of improved practices and maximise environmental and production benefits. This project will involve 120 innovative and early adopter sugar cane growers plus a further 200 early majority growers in the Great Barrier Reef with a major focus on improving nutrient and chemical management from Sarina to Mossman. 4 / Project Pioneer: Innovation in Grazing Land Management / Project Pioneer will support targeted graziers in Great Barrier Reef catchments to adopt practices and information gathering tools tailored to their circumstances that improve farm management capacity and profitability, facilitate the transition to A class land condition, showcase sustainable grazing businesses, and help reduce sediment entering the Great Barrier Reef. A whole of business approach to reducing sediment in runoff will be taken by coaching graziers in multiple facets of their business, including but not limited to ground cover.
