Appeals and Sanctions Committee (15 tenured faculty members with professor rank)
The appeals and sanctions committee considers faculty appeals for denial of tenure, for dismissal for adequate cause, and for appeals of major sanctions. It should consist of 15 tenured faculty members with professor rank, elected by the voting faculty for three year, rotational terms. It meets only as necessary and is not considered as an assignment of committee service. (Unranked faculty and members of the faculty personnel committee are not eligible to serve on the committee).

Faculty Personnel Committee (9 faculty members)
The Faculty Personnel Committee prepares recommendations to the Office of the Provost concerning promotion and tenure. In doing this, it seeks to fairly evaluate a faculty member’s teaching competence, scholarly and professional attainment, responsible participation in institutional activities and alignment with institutional mission.
The Committee is comprised of nine faculty members who hold terminal degrees in their respective fields: Seven are tenured faculty; two are professional faculty who hold rank of at least Associate Professor and have served at least 6 years at the University.

The Curriculum and Instruction Committee acts as an advisory and oversight body for faculty proposals regarding changes in curriculum including, but not limited to, policy, general education, and the university catalog. Develops and proposes curricular policy for approval by the faculty and is available as advisors to faculty members on issues of curriculum and instruction.

Professional Development Committee (at least 7 members)
The Development Committee supports the professional development of faculty and staff in the areas of teaching, research, and service. The committee annually awards competitive grants in teaching, research, and service to faculty and staff members on the basis of individual development plans. The committee is responsible for developing activities deemed appropriate, articulating development opportunities and reporting the awarding of grants in writing to the administration and the University faculty.

Mandate to support and facilitate the development of faculty supervised student research. The Committee is responsible for overseeing North Park University’s annual Undergraduate Research Symposium. The Committee awards annual travel grants to students who are presenting their research at regional or national conferences. The Committee works to enhance programs and develop policies for integration of research into the undergraduate curriculum and for summer research activities.

Charged with: Educating the campus community on best practices in curricular assessment. Reviewing and providing feedback on the assessment plans of all new academic programs. Reviewing all current assessment plans as articulated in the periodic program review and making recommendations to improve their effectiveness. Distributing assessment data and periodic reports as appropriate. Advising the General Education and Curriculum and Instruction Committees on assessment. Membership should have at least 8 faculty members. While it should be representative of the faculty at large, the membership should also include representatives of both those disciplines that report to an outside accrediting body and those that do not.

University Committees with Faculty Assignments
Academic Technology Committee
(ATC is not a committee governed under the Faculty Bylaws. The Dean of Institutional and Academic Technology will administer the ATC and work with the Office of the Provost and other campus leaders as appropriate to fill out the roster.)
The ATC will optimally include one or more staff or faculty members representing IT, COE, Brandel Library, UMC, NPTS, and the schools and divisions including Nursing and Health Science; Business and Nonprofit Management; Education; Music, Art, and Theatre;Professional Studies; and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences. Prospective members should be proven advocates for the use of technology on campus. To ensure that the concerns of the teaching faculty are represented, the ATC will reserve 3 seats for teaching faculty who will serve staggered 3 year terms. To encourage a diverse set of perspectives, typically one of these seats will be vacated and refilled with a different faculty member at the start of each academic year. Individuals may request to be a part of the committee through the Dean of Institutional and Academic Technology.
