Children’s Services Employee Level 1
POSITION OBJECTIVES
The employee works under direct supervision to develop skills and knowledge regarding the implementation of a developmentally appropriate program for individual children or groups, while ensuring that:
- Awareness is developing of the recreational, social, emotional and health and safety needs of the children in out of school hours care
- Awareness is developing of the need for each child to be given individual attention and comfort
- The philosophy, policies and procedures of the service are upheld, and implemented
QUALIFICATION
No formal qualifications, but is able to perform work within the scope of this level.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Ability to refer families to senior employees in a sensitive, supportive, and courteous manner
- Ability to interact with children in a positive, sensitive and respectful manner
- Ability to assist other team members to ensure that all children are included, supported and cared for.
- Ability to work under direction and complete a structured training program
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Some experience interacting with groups of children from 5 – 12 years of age
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Current Senior First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain in first 6 months of employment at this level)
- A criminal history clearance letter through Families SA, Department of Family and Communities (SA)
- Completion of Responding to Abuse and Neglect - Education and Care training
- Attendance at out of hours meetings, training and Service functions may be required (Award / Agreement remuneration / conditions apply)
- The employee will receive structured and regular on-the-job training to perform the duties expected at this level.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
All duties must be carried out with regard to:
- Adherence to relevant policies, procedures and statutory requirements
- Respect for and inclusion of diversity in its many forms
- Respect for and maintenance of confidentiality
- Normally an employee at this level will not be left alone with a group of children.
Delivery of quality care and children’s programs /
- Learning how to establish relationships and interact with children.
- Learning the basic skills required to work in this environment with children.
- Giving each child individual attention and comfort as required.
- Basic duties including food preparation, cleaning and gardening.
- Any other duties consistent with the intent of the classification as may be required
Professional Development and Teamwork /
- Learning and implementing the policies, procedures and routines of the service.
- Participation in training as required
- Basic awareness of duty of care to children
- Participation in the development of team work skills
Administration /
- Appropriate and timely completion of time sheets and information for correct payment of wages
- Support compliance with the appropriate reporting procedures and requirements
ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Varies according to the prevailing operational model
The employee will be directly responsible to (one of the following):
- CSE Level 4 employee
- The Assistant Director/Director of the Service and (DECS site) through her/ him to the Principal or delegate
EXTENT OF AUTHORITY
The employee will work under direct supervision in a team environment and will receive guidance and direction at all times.
This Declaration must be signed before the employee commences in his or her role at the service.
