Project updates end January 2018

In this the 14th year of working in Malawi, we wish all of you a prosperous new year.

Project work in Malawi can mean more than just the raising of funds to complete a specific project. The effect of some of 2017 projects are still being felt in a way we had dared not hope. Such a project is the whole class teaching machines taken out in Sept 2017.

After only 8 weeks of use before thepupils took their yearend exams, we now know that the year on year pass rate has increased by an average 17.5 % across the 8 schools. The machines continue to be in use each day in this the 6 month since delivery.

Schools Toilet Block project £385 per block.

During our visit to 10 schools in Sept 2017the toilet facilities for the students left a lot to be desired. The pictures below show the all too common state of these toilet facilities. This project seeks to bring to each school some real improvements to the daily school lives of 1000s of children.

The planned replacement toilet in the picture below will be a copy of the blocks in secondary schools provided by UNICEF. There was a recorded increase in the attendance of senior girls reflecting the need for the better facilities. Bwengu Projects, using community labour, can provide improved toilets at a realistic price. On advice from community leaders this project will commence April 2018.

Charitable Giving via mydonate.com

Through the kind assistance of Southam Rotary 2000, we have been helped in setting up a charitable giving link in our website. Money can be donated via the link contained within our web site. Just go to the page “Want to Help” then click on the link and follow the instructions. Or just click on the link above. Please remember to tick the little box on the left hand side of the first page.

This also means that if you are a UK tax payer we will be able to claim back an additional 25% on top of your original donation. So you can see it could be a better way to raise more money for the projects.
