Quality Criteria Payments – Patient Safety – Errors, Near Misses and Alerts
NPA – Patient Safety Medicines Safety Support for Contractors with < 50 Pharmacies
The NPA has been appointed by the NHS Improvement (and NHS England) to be the Medicines Safety Officer (MSO) for all independents with 50 and less branches (not just NPA members) across England. Multiples with over 50 branches have their own MSO. We have already a patient safety error reporting form on the NPA website which has been approved by NHS Improvement and a lot of independents are already using this instead of NRLS to report incidents. As part of our role as MSO we collate these reports, liaise with NHS Improvement and share the learnings with the contractors via a superintendent update, webinars a variety of resources and training materials. We are also part of the National Patient Safety Group and are currently working with other MSOs and NHS Improvement to finalise the form that is required for contractors to use as part of quality criteria.
Over the coming weeks, once the form has been signed off by NHS England, we will be highlighting this heavily and the fact that the NPA is the MSO for all Independents with 50 and less branches and the importance of regularly reporting the patient safety incidents on the NPA website, keep a copy of it in the branch and use the reports and the resources on the learnings to do the final patient safety quality criteria. It is important that contractors come through their MSO for patient safety incident reporting as we do need to share the data with NHS Improvement via our approved form.
