MSOT Progression
In order to meet the requirements for a Master’s degree, students maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Students are required to maintain a 3.0 each semester. A student is placed on academic probation if his/ her semester GPA is lower than 3.0 or if they receive a “C” in any individual course; no student may remain on probation for more than one academic term, as it would be very difficult to achieve the 3.0 cumulative GPA required for graduation.
At midterm, if a student is at risk for a “C” grade, the student will participate in a meeting with the student’s course professor or academic advisor and a Performance Improvement Plan will be developed, with review and approval by the MSOT Department Chair. The student will meet biweekly with either the course professor or the student’s academic advisor for the remainder of the semester.
A grade of “B” or better must be obtained for all courses or the student risks dismissal from the program. After one grade of “C” in any course, the student is placed on academic probation with a renewed Performance Improvement Plan. A student may not remain on academic probation for more than one semester before entering a process of academic committee review (MSOT faculty, MSOT Department Chair, & Dean of Interprofessional Education) to review the individual student case and determine further action, including up to academic dismissal from the MSOT program. The student has the right to request an Academic Review Committee and petition the committee in the event of extenuating circumstances.
