Grade 10 History: Heritage Arts Festival
The Heritage Arts Festival is an opportunity for students to understand historical events that occurred during 20th – 21st Century Canada and present their findings in an authentic and interactive way.
Assignment
Students will work in groups of three to four but will be marked individually according to the Heritage Arts Festival Rubric. Moodle groups will be set up for all groups (which will be helpful for students who choose to work with people from other classes). Peer and Self assessment will also be completed for the process and the product.
Each group will focus on a different topic related to Canadian history from 1930 to the present. Groups must complete a Topic Approval Submission.
Once topic has been approved, groups will complete a Vision Statement.
Project: each group will create a visual presentation that showcases topic. This can include:
Super SGA (video or live)
3-D interactive model
Comic Life Panel
Documentary Film
NOTE: EIGHT MINUTE TIME CAP on all presentations
Criteria
Each booth will be judged on the following criteria:
a) Knowledge of topic / Quality of Information
b) Connection to historical importance to Canada
c) Originality / Creativity
d) Dynamic Presentation
Judging
Judging panel will be comprised of teachers and senior students
each presentation / display will be judged a minimum on TWO
times bythe judging panel during the first round of judging
judges will choose approximately 4-6 booths as finalists and
visit each of these booths for a THIRD time as a panel to decide
the winners
Awards
There will be three awards presented:
1) Overall Winner > selected by panel of judges
2) Student Choice> voted by participating students
3) Character Award> selected by history teachers
