Homework:
Assignments are to be done on loose-leaf paper and kept in your math binder. All assignments should be dated, organized, and show necessary work.
Homework will be collected on a daily basis and graded out of 3 points. I am looking at effort, not correct answers. If an assignment is not done, you will receive 0 points; if the assignment is incomplete, you will lose between 1 and 3 points depending on the degree of “incompleteness.”
If you are absent one day, you will have one day to make up the homework assignment. If you are absent 2 days, you will have 2 days to make it up. (Etc…). The same rule applies if you are absent for a quiz or a test. It is YOUR responsibility to come see me the day you come back to school and not the next time the class meets.
Late homework IS accepted for a reduced grade. Homework handed in after an absence is not considered late and may receive full credit.
It is important to utilize homework as a learning tool – make sure to re-do questions that you did not understand! Making notes to yourself as you check your homework will help.

Grading:
Grades include tests, quizzes, and homework.
Grades are computed out of the total number of points given per quarter. Tests and quizzes will be worth 80% and homework/classwork/participation will be worth 20% each quarter.
No make-up quizzes or tests for poor grades will be given. However, you should make every attempt to correct your mistakes or see me to go over the material you did not understand. Math is cumulative. The material you may have done poorly on does not go away. We will build on that subject matter as the year progresses.
Homework is very important and should be helping your average in this class if you complete all of it. Obviously if you don’t do your homework your average will drop significantly.
You should try to participate in math EVERYDAY! This is accomplished by asking or answering questions, raising your hand, going to the board, or helping a fellow student. Success in math class is dependent upon active involvement in and out of class! Thinking and asking questions will help you to learn and understand the course material!
Please check grades on the parent portal regularly to monitor student progress in this course
Absent:
If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, be prepared to take it the following day. If there is a problem with this, please discuss it with me first and we will schedule another date to take the test.
If you have an illegal absence for a missed assessment (homework, quiz, and/or test), the grade for the assessment is a “zero.”
It is YOUR responsibility to get the notes from someone else. If you do not understand the material, please come see me as soon as possible.
Don’t forget to get the homework assignment from my website or another classmate AND give me the previous assignment that was due the day you were absent. When this does not happen, students tend to fall behind and we do not want that to happen.
Final Evaluation:
The Algebra Regents Exam grade will be used as the final exam.
In accordance with school policy, each quarter grade and the final exam will count as one-fifth, or 20%, of your final average.
The final exam is a requirement to receive course credit and must be taken as it is required for earning a Regents Diploma.
Regents Exam Schedule: You may find the dates of the exams via [search – “regents exam schedule”]. The morning exams are administered at 7:40am and the afternoon exams are administered at 12:00pm for NiskayunaHigh School.
Expectations:
Pay attention in class, take good notes, ask questions, study, do the assignments on time.
Every member of the class is expected to show respect and consideration towards each other and the teacher.
All students are expected to come to class on time, with the necessary materials for class.
Textbooks should be covered at all times. (Students are responsible for any damages to textbooks assigned to them.)
Bring a pass if you enter class late.
Please try to use the restroom between classes if at all possible, as students leaving and entering class throughout a block is distracting to others in the classroom.
The use of cell phones or electronic devices in the classroom is strictly prohibited. In order to achieve your best, and as per school policy, these devices need to be turned off and put away upon entering the classroom.
