The last date for entry into courses or programmes leading to the expiring qualification is 31 December 2017. The last date for assessment of the expiring qualification is 31December 2019 at which time it will be discontinued. From that date no results can be reported against the qualification.
People should not be enrolled in programmes leading to the award of this qualification unless there is sufficient time available to them to complete the programme and be awarded the qualification before it expires.
It is intended that no existing learner be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. Any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may contact the standard setting body at the address below.

Purpose
This qualification is designed to raise the quality of te reo Māori within the media industry and recognise the media and journalism skills and knowledge required to work in Māori radio and journalism. It is aimed primarily at people already working within the reo Māori media industry, but will also be useful for people who want to pursue a career in this industry.
This qualification’s Compulsory section includes standards which cover knowledge and skills related to high-level issues in the reo Māori media industry, live reo Māori media commentary, and writing for reo Māori media.
People can choose between either the Radio or Journalism strands which include standards that cover knowledge and skills related to preparing material for broadcast or publication.
The National Diploma in Reo Māori Media (Level 5) with strands in Journalism and Radio [Ref: 1146] follows on from the National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (Introductory Media Skills) (Level 3) [Ref: 1629] and the National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (Foundation Media Skills) (Level 4) [Ref: 1630].
This qualification is also a pathway to the National Diploma in Applied Journalism (Level 6) [Ref: 1485].
It is intended that training, delivery, and assessment for this qualification is conducted predominantly in te reo Māori.
Special Notes
Recommended: National Certificate in Reo Māori (Level 4) [Ref: 0426] or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.
People may commence training and assessment towards this qualification without having been awarded the National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (Foundation Media Skills) (Level 4) [Ref:1630]. However, they will not be awarded this qualification until they have been awarded the National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (Foundation Media Skills) (Level 4) [Ref:1630]; or demonstrated equivalent skills and knowledge.
People who already possess skills and knowledge relevant to this qualification are encouraged to seek recognition through the provider’s Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) process.

Version 2 was issued following review.
Changes to structure and content
· Standards 10264 and 10356 were removed from the old Core Compulsory section.
· Standards 26257 and 26258 were added to the new Compulsory section.
· Standards 10184, 10278, and 10378 were removed from the Radio Strand because they have expired.
· Standard 23106 replaced standard 10355, and standard 23125 replaced standard 10364, in the Radio Strand.
· The Journalism Strand now consists of two specified standards instead of three sets. Standard 23111 replaced standards 10366, 10367, and 10368 in Set 1. Standards 10360 and 10361 were removed from the strand because they have expired without replacement. Standard 23123 was added to the strand.
· The Television Strand was removed from the qualification because the standards included in the strand have expired or been designated as expiring without replacement.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
