Your assignment during this rotation of health will be researching a Summer Olympic sport. For the first part of the project, everyone MUST do the paper requirement. You are to answer the following questions below on a word document. The word document should not be more than three pages long and use Times New Roman 12 point font, double-spaced. You must use correct grammar and spelling. Make sure you do NOT copy word for word off of the Internet!! Paraphrase and put things in your own words. This paper will be worth 100 points that will be counted twice in HCPS link.

The second part of your project you may choose to do a poster OR a slide show presentation. The poster or slideshow will be worth 100 points and be counted once in HCPS link. The requirements for the poster and slide show are below. The next five (5) health classes will be given to complete this project.

PAPER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. History of sport.
  2. A brief summary of rules and object of the game. Did any changes to rules ever take place? If so, what were the changes, what year did they occur and why were they changed?
  3. Year the sport was inducted into Olympics.
  4. What events fall under your sport during the Olympics?
  5. How many people are included in each event?
  6. How are scores totaled or determined to earn a medal?
  7. Name TWO famous athletes from this sport. Explain why they stand out in your sport.
  8. Choose two countries that excel in your sport. Have any of your two Countries ever hosted the Olympics? If so, when and where?
  9. Does your sport have a new country entering the 2008 games? If so, who?
  10. Has your sport ever chosen to not participate in the Olympics? If so, when and why?
  11. What are the most medals won by a country/athlete in your sport? Who was the athlete and how many medals? (You may use this athlete for part of number 7)
  12. How can you integrate the your sport into Hungary Creek’s PE classes? You need to modify the rules to accommodate at least 34 students most the time. You need to make sure that your class feels successful when playing your sport. What equipment would you need to play your sport and what facility would you use to play your sport here at Hungary Creek (examples of space would be the softball field, soccer field, Duncroft park, etc.)

POSTER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Summer Olympic sport symbol, name of sport and Olympic rings with correct colors.
  2. Brief history of sport.
  3. Year sport entered Olympic games.
  4. What events fall under your sport.
  5. Display flag of County (other than USA) that excels in sport.
  6. Display picture of a famous athlete in your sport (please use athlete from paper, not a new athlete) and brief explanation of why this person is famous.
  7. YOU MUST MAKE A “CONNECTION” WITH YOUR SPORT TO A CORE CLASS (example would be English, math, science, and social studies). Explain why this is a connection. Be specific!

Paper, not a new athlete) and a brief explanation why this person is famous.

Slide 7 – Make a ‘CONNECTION’ with your sport to a core class (math, English,

science or social studies). Explain why this is a connection and make sure

you are specific!!
