Dear Family,

▪Happy Thanksgiving and End of Trimester 1

oWow, what a great start to the year we have had. We have enjoyed getting to know each of the students and are extremely excited at all of the growth we are making. Thank you for all your support and sharing your darling children with us. Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving Break. When we return, we will be ready to dive into Trimester 2. As always, any feedback or concerns you have are welcomed, as we want this to be a positive and successful school year.

▪Excused Absence and Missed Work

oWe want to clarify American Academy’s policy on missed work when students have an excused absence. If an assignment is assigned on the day of a student’s absence, that student has 2 school days to complete missed work once he/she returns. If a student misses a day when previously assigned work is due, that assignment is due upon the day he/she returns.

▪History

oWe will begin our unit on Ancient Greece.

▪Science

oWe will continue our unit on the 3 States of Matter when we return from break.

▪Recipe Exchange

oWe are excited for the upcoming Holidays. It is always fun to do a recipe exchange! We are asking that you and your child brainstorm a favorite family recipe that you are willing to share. Please go to the American Academy website and under downloads (on the left side panel) pick Family Recipe Template.Click HERE Your recipe MUST go on this template. Please modify the sections listed (name, serving size, ingredients and directions). You can also include a picture of your choice. It could be a picture of your family or a fun clip art. Please email your completed recipe document to your homeroom teacher no later than Thursday, December1, 2016. Please let us know if you have any questions.

oThe 2nd Grade Team and kids are SO lucky to have the best IA in the school! Well, the others are pretty great too, but Mrs. Schroeder has a special place in our hearts. She is the person that you see most often at lunch and recess with your kids. She also makes ALL of our copies and helps out with absolutely anything we ask for. She is incredible! If you are able, please donate $1 to the “Spoil Mrs. Schroeder Fund.” Of course you are welcome to send more money if you would like. We will be splitting the money between a holiday gift and an end of year gift from the students and families. If you would like to send in money, please send it in an envelope labeled: To Mrs. Brubaker.
