CHINAPLAS 2016: Vehicles lose weight, charge reliably with innovative designs inspired by BASF materials

Light, flexible bus seats

World’s first plastic transmission crossbeam

More durable charging systems

BASF at CHINAPLAS 2016: Booth B41 in Hall N1, Shanghai New International Expo Centre, April 25-28, 2016

Shanghai, China – March 11, 2016 – Vehicles can slim down, travel light and charge reliably with innovative solutions from BASF. At CHINAPLAS 2016, BASF will showcase solutions that help meet increasing demand for energy efficient transportation in China.

·  Light, flexible bus seats made with BASF’s polyamide Ultramid®: With its light weight superior flow properties, Ultramid makes slimmer, more comfortable bus seats possible – meaning more legroom, or wider ergonomic seats with contouring comfort and maximum support.

·  Lighter rear axle subframe made with the world’s first plastic transmission crossbeam: Made for the S-Class from Mercedes-Benz, the transmission crossbeam was developed with BASF’s simulation tool Ultrasim®, to optimize the component geometry and reduce the number of prototypes.

·  More durable charging systems with BASF’s Elastollan® thermoplastic polyurethane: Elastollan makes charging cables more durable, withstanding the rigors of the outdoors and the stresses of delivering high voltage power.
