JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, is responsible for the operation of a WordProcessing Center. Produces documents using automated input andoutput equipment and related ancillary devices. Supervises and trainssubordinate personnel.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Supervises the functions of a word processing center. Determinescenter priorities, plans, schedules, assigns, reviews andexpedites work. Determines most efficient method for utilizationof personnel and equipment.
- Supervises and trains center personnel. Writes and/or maintains definitive descriptions of duties assigned to work stations.Recommends skills development for center staff.
- Codes, classifies, files, retrieves and oversees the maintenanceof materials in manual and automated filing systems.
- Makes recommendation for purchase of all input and outputequipment and ancillary devices.
- Establishes and evaluates methods and procedures for preparingdocuments. Establishes and assures compliance with qualitystandards.
- Consolidates and evaluates production control logs. Maintainsstatistics and compiles data for use in reports and preparation ofcenter budget. Prepares reports and correspondence.
- Performs the duties of a Word Processing Operator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE: Five years in progressively responsible clerical work toinclude three years in word processing and one year in a lead orsupervisory capacity.
OTHER: Requires keyboarding skills at a minimum of 50 correct wordsper minute.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of business english, grammar, spelling,punctuation, sentence structure, proofreading, document formatting,and editing; of office practice and procedures; of the care andoperation of word processing equipment and related ancillary devices.Thorough knowledge of and skill in the use of word processing softwarepackages. Skill in operating manual and automated office equipment; in operating personal computers, word processing equipment and relatedsoftware; in planning, prioritizing, scheduling, and independentlyperforming difficult word processing assignments. Ability tocommunicate effectively both orally and in writing; to establish andmaintain effective work relationships; to supervise, motivate andtraining word processing personnel; to prepare reports and composecorrespondence; to perform mathematical computations; to followcomplex oral and written instructions.
OTHER:
Except for qualifications established by law, additionalrelated experience and formal education in which one has gained theknowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of thework of the job class may be substituted for the education orexperience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 collegecredits being equivalent to one year of experience.
