Natural Networks trainee: Community Networks Officer

Natural Networks is a new project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. It will develop skills to facilitate the 'green network' of sites considered essential for the effective conservation of biodiversity, creating a UK wide web of expertise in managing and engaging people in ecological networks. The project will develop the skills of 32 trainees and hundreds of communities across the UK to understand, value, protect and increase the biodiversity of their local green places.
Cumbernauld has an extensive green network which is integral to the design of the new town. The network of paths, parks and larger greenspaces provide natural connections between communities. This learning placement will gather evidence on the quality, connectedness and perceptions of the green network. It will support communities to understand what their needs are for greenspace and how it can benefit their health and wellbeing.
As part of the Cumbernauld Living Landscape the trainee will support groups to enhance the connections and quality of their spaces.
During the placement you will be supported to learn and put into practice a wide range of natural heritage and community development skills and develop and deliver your own community environmental engagement project. This will connect the natural environment to people’s wellbeing
- You will need to have a basic knowledge of natural history and a commitment to conservation. Some experience of working with the public is essential and experience delivering environmental education, working with community groups or working with volunteers will be an advantage. You will be highly motivated and able to work efficiently without supervision. This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills and an aptitude for enthusing others to value, enjoy and protect our natural heritage.
