Dear Sir,
RE: INTERGRATED YOUTH PROGRAM
Sikizana Trust is an integrated youth organisation founded by the youth of Makueni with an aim to provide and promote education and leadership, create a focal point of information accumulation and dissemination, identify and develop talents among the youth while creating an environment where they can fully cultivate their potential and participate in community development. It wasborn out of the need to address the issues affecting them especially scarcity of information (in a general term) in the rural areas. We also needed to take the centre stage in reducing the school drop out level in Kibwezi and Makueni in General. Our parents have had to walk long distances for water. We are still doing that today. We needed to be part of the long term solution towards reduction if not elimination of this problem and the many others evident on the ground. It has a growing free membership of over 500 school age young people and those aged up to 35 years. It is the first such an organization in this region with support from all groups in the community.
Sikizana Trust Mission
Sikizana aims at
(a)providing and promoting leadership,
(b)identifying and developing talents among the youth and
(c)creating an environment where they canfully cultivate their potential and
(d)participate in community development.
(e)Link the poor children with well wishers and partner with other development stakeholders to achieve the mission.
Sikizana Vision
Develop the Youth and the Nation Grows
- PROJECT ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION (Against each activity is our challenge, the reason of writing this letter. It is what we are seeking assistance for. However, in general terms, we request you to help us link with development partners interested in working with the rural youth through sports and in HIV/AIDS)
I.Activity 1 Sports Unit and Clubs Development
We do not have equipment but we have sent requests to some corporate companies.
This is the key activity and the motivation to membership and participation. Although we have already kicked off with mobilization and some limited activities, our challenges remain to be lack of equipments, (balls, pumps, soccer boots, uniform, training and management capacity. So far we have received assistance from schools and clubs that existed before the birth of Sikizana Trust.
II.Activity II Peer Communication Campaign:
We lack Trained Trainers of Peer education
To fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic, it is important to develop a comprehensive self reliant peer education program. Our challenge is to have our own trained Trainers through a training-of-trainers course. We expect the trainers to continuously train peer educators.
III.Activity IIIEducation and Child sponsorship:
Proposal writing Capacity is limited
This is the key objective of Sikizana Trust. We are and shall continue to seek partnership towards this end. At the same time we shall endevour to highlight the plight of our poor children to both the local leadership, e.g. Constituency Development Fund and the Bursary Fund.
- Activity IV Community Learning Centres.
We are limited by image. We need others to know we exist and for what reason we exist to be able to finance us
Sikizana is seeking to mobilize funds locally and from well-wishers to establish a Community Learning Centres for both the youth and the general public. These will be point to accumulate and disseminate information, reference centres, skills development and recreational places for the community.
