  • Dividers
  • Loose-leaf notebook paper (no fringes)
  • Blue or black pen
  • 6th period – box of Kleenex or pens

CLASS EXPECTATIONS

  • Be in your assigned seat/area, ready to work when the bell finishes ringing.
  • Bring/have paper, pencil, books and all needed materials every day.
  • Keep hands, feet, books and objects to yourself.
  • Cruel teasing or put downs are not permitted.

LEARNING CHOICES

Occasionally, students ignore classroom expectations. I will give students cues, reminders and will redirect them to focus on their work to get them back on track. When the misbehavior continues, the following will occur:

  • Reminder—Remind student of expected behavior before it occurs.
  • Cue—a non-verbal signal
  • Verbal Redirect(s)—Teacher asks student to follow directions.
  • Detention—Place & time to think about the poor decisions that were made by the student.
  • Office Referral—A visit with the Assistant Principal to discuss the reoccurrence of poor decisions, inappropriate actions or behaviors made by the student.

*For a serious disruption such as fighting, destroying property, refusing to work or for serious defiance, the student will be sent to the office immediately.

WRITTEN WORK

  • All written assignments must be completed on white notebook paperin blue or black ink.
  • Exceptions include final drafts of essays and other major projects which must be typed.
  • All assignments must have a headingplaced in the upper right-hand corner of each assignment which consists of your name, subject-class period and the date.
  • All written assignments must be neat and legible!

Computer Lab Rules

  • No food, drinks or water allowed in the lab
  • No games allowed at any time; when assignments are complete, time may be used to do research on colleges, jobs, technical schools, housing, etc. Teacher permission is required for anything else!
  • Do not change any computer settings in the lab (screen saver, toolbars, icons, etc.) Immediate referral to the office will result in adjusting any school settings. Be respectful of the school property!If something has been changed when you come to class, report it to Mrs. Reynolds immediately. We have a nice computer lab – abuse of the lap in any way will result in privileges taken away for use of the lab.

Personal Technology Use:

All issues relating to Personal Technology Use (PTU) will be followed as indicated in the CHS district 2015-2016 Personal Technology Use handbook.NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED IN CLASS UNLESS BEING USED FOR A CLASS ASSIGNMENT.

CELL PHONES MUST BE PUT AWAY AND SILENT. CHARGING PHONES IN CLASS IS NOT AN OPTION.

LATE WORK

Late work will not be accepted and will result in the grade of a zero. Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances.

MAKE-UP WORK

It is your responsibility to ask for make-up work. Make-up work is due at your class time the following day after returning to class. Failure to turn in work during the allotted time will result in a grade of zero. Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances.

MAKE-UP TESTS

If you are absent the day a test is given you must make up the test during tutorial hours. Make-up tests must be made up within one day of returning to class. After this time the grade for the test will be zero. Exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances.

** I must be notified by your legal parent/guardian or team coach/sponsor if exceptions due to extenuating circumstances need to be considered.

GRADING POLICY

Major Grades = 50%

  • This includes tests, journals, research reports, and business projects.

Minor Grades = 50%

  • This includes class work, homework, , quizzes and classroom participation.

OVERVIEW OF BUSINESS ENGLISH:

Students recognize, evaluate, and prepare for a rapidly evolving global business environment that requires flexibility and adaptability. Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies. Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and reasoning skills and apply them to the business environment. Students are expected to plan, draft, and complete written compositions on a regular basis. Students edit their papers for clarity, engaging language, and the correct use of the conventions and mechanics of written English and produce final, error-free drafts for business reproduction.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Prepare for effective communication skills by organizing ideas logically; interpret visual materials such as charts, graphs, and maps, and organizing ideas in writing to ensure coherence and logical progression to support ideas.
  • Employ research techniques to produce effective business communication
  • Develop business and professional vocabulary skills and deliver effective business presentations
  • Develop communication skills for changing business environment; identify barriers to effective communication, assess the ethical and legal implications of messages, cultural obstacles in business environment and how to interpret nonverbal communication.
  • Student will use elements of writing process to compose text and produce business documents; write procedural and work-related documents; the student will understand and use academic language when speaking and writing and use correct spelling, grammar and capitalization.
